Because It's Easier to Write Catchy Slogans When You're Buzzed
Office drinking

It's 1999 again! Back before the dot-com bust, with-it companies were all about Aeron chairs, free cafeterias, in-house masseurs, and on-the-clock drinking courtesy the office bar. Now, with multiple ad agencies gloating over their top shelf staff offerings, we've officially got a trend on our hands. And perhaps it's all thanks to AMC's Mad Men, a throwback to the good old days where 10am didn't role around without a single malt.

"Havas' Arnold boasts a newly minted [bar]; WPP Group's JWT recently revamped a huge space in its New York office dedicated to its bar; and BBDO's is still going strong after more than 30 years. Publicis Groupe's Digitas, meanwhile, has a beer cart that travels the office." Of course, it helps that the agencies' liquor clients are keeping their bars stocked, and it can only impress your paying customers to see their product being stocked, or enjoyed, on the premises — even if said premises is a floor of cubicles.

Like Mindshare's Brain Drain: "This bar was inherited from WPP sibling Bates in 2004. Starting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, MindShare employees head there for pinball and a cash bar that serves bottled beer and hard liquor, including client Imperia vodka."

Or Grey's Dog & Pony: "President Steve Hardwick had the idea to open the bar last summer and held a contest to choose the name, a nod to those incessantly rehearsed client presentations. It's open only on Thursday evenings and serves free beer and wine, along with live music and rotating art exhibits. On off nights it's dubbed Café Grey and doubles as a dining room. There's a bar area in the blueprints for Grey's new offices, where the agency aims to move in 2009. The name is expected to stick."
