In the wake of yesterday's devastating Virginia Tech massacre, horrified viewers across the country tuned in to see the latest developments of this catastrophic story. And what did they find?
Charlie Sheen's latest attempt at a sitcom (CBS), Heather Mills' dramatic peg-leg tumble (ABC), and Howie Mandel's shiny chrome dome (NBC). And while the network head honchos stuck to their regularly scheduled primetime programming, the talk show pundits hastily reconfigured their programs to make way for breaking new on the still unraveling story, with some (like mustachioed white knight, Geraldo) racing down to Virginia for some on-site reporting.
And inspired by Rivera's bravado, we sought to find out where the worst school shooting in American history fell on fellow Foxer (and Geraldo's occasional nemesis), Bill O'Reilly's radar.
The answer, after the jump.
In not particularly surprising news, it turns out the horrifically violent campus massacre ranked at a distant third on The O'Reilly Factor, placing it just behind an outdated "Talking Points" segment on Don Imus, and a crazyperson rant against Rosie O'Donnell.
It's all about priorities, people.
And while we give you a moment to contain your shock/awe, we'd like to extend a special thanks to Intern Wendy for her diligent television watching, and to Bill O'Reilly, for being nothing if not dependable.
Update: A publicist from Fox News has informed us that O'Reilly did, in fact, lead his program with Virginia Tech coverage, reporting on the shooting for at least 15 minutes before switching gears to his Talking Points and "Why I Hate Rosie" segments.
And while we sincerely apologize for any unintentional misinformation, we feel obliged to note that stalwart Intern Wendy refuses to back down.
While she acknowledges that Fox may have led with the shooting, she points out "CNN, Headline News, and MSNBC were doing wall to wall coverage at the time of the O'Reilly whinefest." (For the record, Fox News fired back by pointing out they went live on the shooting for 21 hours–more than all the other networks.)

Thank you for using my story suggestion. I was horrified that Bill O'Reilly though whining with Tom DeLay about Rosie O'Donnell was more important than a national tragedy. Horrified, but not surprised.
Um O' Reilly opened his show with a segment on the massacre where he interviewed a student. He later had another segment about it with gorgeous Greta Van Susteren.
Great job Intern Wendy!
Yes, I agree with Fair and Balanced, O'Reilly did open his show on the segment, he also interviewed Greta VS about her following up with more information regarding the tragedy (later on in the evening) and how it was a developing story. As far as Rose goes, she's taking cheap shots and everyone, including BO. I am no fan of BO but Rosie has got a mouth on her that would easily fit the Titantic, ice-berg and all!
Great job intern Wendy!
"Bill O'Reilly Hates Bloody Campus Shootings, But Not Nearly As Much As He Hates Rosie O'Donnell"
Whoever wrote this is a moron. An absolute moron. O'reilly openend and closed his show (which is NUMBER ONE in all of cable news) with the Tech story.
At least the VA Tech shooter is dead… Rosie's fat ass is still with us!
Yep. You screwed this one up. He started and ended his hour with this. Unfortunately, this tragedy has a new element: parasitic newspeople exploiting the horrific events for personal gain. Why else would Katie Couric jet down there and argue with the police chief at a press conference about procedures only hours after the incident? Our lust for news hasn't abated since 9/11. We should report on these tragedies, but come on, using this and other sad events for ratings? Horrible.
You are all missing the point here.
Why did Bill O'Reilly even do a talking points segment on Don Imus and Rosie O'Donnell, and then belabor the point by interviewing Tom DeLay, when all this was going on?
You can say I "blew it," but the evidence is right there, on foxnews.com's own website, both on video and their transcripts.
Pretty appalling he couldn't take a day off of his "get Rosie fired" campaign on a day like yesterday.
For someone's information, O'Reilly has made it clear on numerous occasions that he is NOT calling for O'donnell's firing even though she is moron enough to accuse our govt. of murdering 3000 people.
He went ahead and did the O'Donnell story because he had been telling everyone to watch it that night during his radio show that day.
I hate that asswipe Rosie.
She has a vagomach.
Why didn't Billy boy do a whole show on the V-Tech murders? Because he's conflicted….
This is a perfect opportunity to expose another forign born person who is ruinning this great country! (as he did with the illegal alien that was involved in a hit and run a couple weeks ago.
But, he did it with guns which were legally purchased in the State of Virginia.
Which way will Bill spin now?
Intern Wendy - you suck.
Don't tell me I missed the point - I am not stupid. I know how to read and comprehend the English language. And the point of your spot-on analysis was that you are a raging left-wing moron who uses lies and smart-ass remarks to try to get your point across.
I think I can safely bet that you have probably never seen an entire episode of the O'Reilly Factor. For your information, not all of us were completely intrigued by the Virginia Tech massacre. The details were initial and sketchy. And certainly there was other news worthy of coverage going on, not only in the US but around the world.
You may not think the Rosie story is important, but that just proves how ignorant you and people like you are.
Intern Wendy should wisen up if she ever wants to become anything more than an intern.

I think you're missing the point. You are credited as the source of the information that states the V Tech story was third on the show. It was not. The evidence is clear. He also covered it at least twice during the show. He rarely does this with any story unless it's important.
And finally, the story was still breaking. The police hadn't even released the killers name. There wasn't much to report on. Would it be better if he did the whole show about the V Tech killings. Basically saying the same thing every 5 minutes? What would be the point? He covered everything that was known at the time. There wasn't anything else he could have contributed.
But at least he contributed something. What have you done other than berate him because he doesn't like Rosie?
THIS JACKASS COULDN'T EVEN DEVOTE AN ENTIRE SHOW TO THIS SAD SITUATION. HE IS SO BUSY TRYING TO GET ROSIE FIRED THAT HE HAD THE WOSRT PERSON AND CROOK OF ALL AFTER KARL ROVE, ON HIS SHOW, BILL O'REILLY IS A PHONE SEX PERVERT AND HAS THE NERVE TO TRY AND CHASTISE OTHERS. HE IS A BIASED POMPOUS ASS. SO HE OPENED AND CLOSED THE SHOW WITH WHAT HAPPENED AT VIRGINIA TECH, WHY COULDN'T HE DEVOTE HIS ENTIRE SHOW TO WHAT HAPPENED. YOU GO WENDY!!!!!!!
We note the point from Fair & Balanced. It is important to craft a good show. Can't we just say that he's a savvy broadcaster and a jerk?
Staccee:
Take a deep breathe. Calm down. This isn't anything to get excited about. You're getting worked up over a TV news analyst.
But just to be clear. He has not called for Rosie to be fired. He never said that.
Also to be clear, Tom DeLay is guilty of nothing as yet. He has been convicted of nothing. He is currently under investigation. That's it. Unless you have some solid proof of his wrongdoing your assertion that he's the biggest crook is defamatory.
Also, O' Reilly is a phone sex pervert? How do you know? Do you have the call logs? Transcripts? Were you on the other end? This is news to me. I know he settled a lawsuit with an ex-producer (no axe to grind there) and admitted no wrongdoing and the woman agreed to this. So I don't see where you get that he's a phone sex pervert.
I will agree he is a pompous.
And does one have to be perfect to chastise someone? I don't think so. But if that is what you believe then I guess you'll edit your post, unless you're perfect?
WHAT A PAIR TOM AND BILL, WHAT A PAIR OF JOKERS. MAYBE THEY CAN TAKE THEIR DOG AND PONY SHOW ON THE ROAD. TOM JUST HAD TO TAKE THE SPOTLIGHT FROM A MORE SERIOUS TOPIC. HE IS STILL A JERK. BUT O'REILLY HAD TO FEED HIS EGO AND GET OFF THE VIRGINIA TECH SHOOTINGS TO GET THE ROSIE FIRED TOPIC ON. HE COULDN'T EVEN WAIT FOR A DAY AT LEAST, I'M SURE THAT IF SOMEONE HAD SHOT ANN COULTER OR THAT MAKLIN CHICK, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ALL SHOW TOPIC.
NOPE I AM NOT PERFECT, AND I HAVE NO INTENTION OF EDITING MY POST. AS FAR AS THE PERVERT IS CONCERNED,I HAVE HEARD EXCERPTS OF SOME OF HIS VILE AND PERVERTED PHONE SEX AND IF IT IS NOT TRUE WHY DID THIS SATIMONIOUS ASS SETTLE OUT OF COURT IF HE DID NO WRONG?
SEEMS TO ME THAT THE FOOL CAVED IN QUICKLY EVEN AFTER FILING A LAWSUIT AGAINST THE WOMAN THAT MADE THE CLAIMS.
AS FOR TOM DELAY I LIVE IN HIS FORMER DISTRICT HERE IN TEXAS, AND THE MAN WAS AND STILL IS A CROOK AND LIAR.
Stacee:
Why did she settle out of court? If he did the things she said, why did she settle and agree that he did no wrong doing? It's not like she needed the money. Unless of course he did nothing wrong?
It may be your opinion that he is a crook and a liar but you have nothing to back that up with other than your feelings which doesn't cut it. Thankfully we have courts that will decide as opposed to a mob.
Why couldn't O'Reilly simply have said that he'd do the interview/piece about Rosie on another day as current events dictated complete coverage on the Virginia Tech story instead? I'll tell you way: He's got a raging ego and what happens in Bill's World is far more important (to him) than what happens in the real world. I can't stand O'Donnell either, I think she's a big, egotistical phony too but really, couldn't he just shut up about it all for ONE day? Especially YESTERDAY???
Kids,
O'Reilly had the highest rated cable show last night. By far.
And he will again tonight.
Because O'Reilly is a pompous, arrogant, egotistical jerk who thinks the world revolves around him, that's why! The bulk of that show was spent on Bill-O and his nemisis, Rosie O'Donell and I can't believe Fox News is trying to spin this to indicate it wasn't. What are they trying to hide? The fact that BOR's an asshole? Save your breath Fox Publicists: we already knew that.
Media Matters certainly thought O'Reilly was on one of his typical ego-fests last night. He actually tried to claim that there was some sort of liberal "hit-list" and how people were out to get him and other prominent conservatives. And he's railing away at Rosie for conspiracy theories? Couldn't O'Reilly just put a sock in it for one night? If Fox wants to get offended about something maybe they should be offended that this joker is their "signature" personality. Hell, I'm offended every time I hear the words "Fox News". Thanks for shining the light on O'Reilly's obsession with himself last night, on all nights, Wendy!
Love this O'Reilly/Fox bashing. Just like Risie bashed Bush today because the President "WENT" to the college. If he didn't she would have bashed him. Fox just did all day coverage of the shooting, what more could have been said? A 10 min. segment on another topic is a sin? All day coverage of Imus, all day coverage of anything that that doesn't affect, I'm sorry, none of us in the whole picture.
Bill O'Reilly's talking points:

Bill O'Reilly's nterview with Tom DeLay:

I understand Fox and O'Reilly have it's defenders but why is Fox News got their nose out of joint about this? Check the transcripts above. They show that he spent half the show talking about himself and his own little personal grudge matches on what was a horrible day for America. He should have been able to put those families and those students in front of himself and his massive ego for once. And if Fox News has a problem with someone calling him on it, it just goes to show you that they KNOW he was wrong and don't want anyone drawing attention to this and his insensitivity and his massive, raging ego.
MS - I wouldn't base my argument on what Media Matters has to say. They are a very left-wing website that is directly funded by George Soros - need I say more?
It always cracks me up at how livid people are at FOX News. The network is always being berated and it's format and correspondents are denegrated in an attempt to marginalize the "Fair and Balanced" news source.
It must piss you people off so badly that FOX News is the highest-rated cable news channel, oftentimes doubling or tripling it's competitors. I guess you'll just have to try harder.
Anytime Billie O comes up as a topic, the debate is always intense. I can see points made here, but clearly the use of abusive language and insults does not leave those making the accusations more credible, in fact it does the opposite, it dilutes your point of vue. I will agree that Media Matter's is about as far left as a web site goes. I will also agree that Billie O is egotistical. I will agree that the media is out of control in getting the latest news on the airwaves. My condolences go the Virginia Tech. In the time of tragedy, may we find peace and comfort through kindness and understanding. Also, may Rosie keep her mouth shut once in a while.
Addyboob - Media Matters is NOT funded by Soros. Media Matters has covered this right wing myth so get yourself informed. O'Reilly should have put aside his left wing hatefest for the night and devote the whole show about VT. I and many others tuned in to expecting him to do just this and to have a discussion from his viewpoint on the shooting. Instead so much of the hour was dedicated to Rosie, left wingers and himself. His ego is out of control.
LMAO. Just because Soros didn't sign a check written out to Media Matters doesn't mean they aren't receiving his money.
"While there is no evidence Soros gave directly to Brock and Media Matters, clearly Soros-funded groups have been instrumental in getting MMA started."
http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewSpe.....0303a.html
If you wanted to see a full hour of VT coverage then you could have tuned into any of the other dozen channels covering it. Some of us didn't really want to see the same information repeated over and over for an hour.
Soros gives money to organizations. If these organizations then in turn give their money to other organizations such as MMFA, that does not make Soros the contributor.
If I give my money to a charity who then gives the money to another group (something charities like Untied Way do all the time), I did not contribute to said group…the charity did.
MMFA is does not receive money from Soros nor is it a Soros operation.
Can some folks please lay off the CapsLock key a little, it makes it difficult to read your posts, thanks.
MS:
"Hell, I'm offended every time I hear the words "Fox News".
LMAO!
(I live in Fox-free Canada, so I never got to watch O'Reilly, although I would like to. Still, good line!)
