For those of you who haven't been watching American Idol this year, you haven't missed much. And you certainly haven't missed out on the musical stylings of seventeen year-old contestant Sanjaya Malakar, who's far better remembered for his luscious locks than his limited vocal range.
But apparently, the seemingly deliriously happy Sanjaya isn't actually enjoying his reputation as "the off-key Shirley Temple" on America's highest rated singing competition.
A source close to Sanjaya's family revealed exclusively to TMZ that the darling hula-dancer has been devastated by recent bad press he's received over his not-so-precious singing. "He's so young and so sensitive, it's hard for him to go out on that stage and not have that devastation affect his performance," said the source.
Hear that? The kid's barely even old enough to get into an R-rated movie and he's already got more people telling him he sucks than Jenna Jameson and Paris Hilton combined. So please, do Sanjaya a favor and stop voting for him. We've already seen what the kid can do with a Diana Ross song, and it's nowhere near as impressive as what he can do with a can of styling gel, a spritz of non-stick hairspray and a Supercuts blowout.

I really like Sanjaya. At the first time I saw him, I feel he has 'something'. I don't know. But he is very talented, he can sing and is entertaining. He has wonderful voice. He is tough also. Since the end of season three I stopped watching AI because I got bored with it. But recently I have begun watching it again because of this Sanjaya guy. I was curious at all the commotion this person has caused. Some say he is not good enough and some say he is and have a good voice. Some say he is good looking and some say he is not. One thing for sure - this guy has become a household name and will be so for some time. I have asked some people at work of their opinion about Sanjaya's singing, his voice, and his performance by playing the videos in http://www.youtube.com over-and-over again and also comparing his performance of Bathwater to that of the concert version of the band "No Doubt". Most concluded that his voice is actually nice, he sang well and most agreed that his version is actually better than the band's concert version. Now this is not me saying this but a group of people. His take of "You really got me" is also good. So why is it that this guy is being criticised as not being good enough? I also asked this question at work to my co-workers - Could the other contestant have performed a better version of "You really go me" and "Bathwater"? It is very difficult for us to imagine Lakisha Jones, Melinda Doolittle, or Jordin Sparks singing "You really got me". It is even more difficult to imagine the other guys singing "Bathwater". So I could only conclude that only Sanjaya could pull it off. And he does have a good voice though limited in range, but he did a good job. Because of his limited range he compensate by modifying the tune of the song. I guess the audience just does not get this and expect him to sing it just the way the original artist did. This is just not realistic. Not even Gwen Stefani sound as good in concert as she does in her albums. One more addition - although AI originally had the intention of being a singing competition, it is no more. It has evolved as an entertainment that is more than that. It now involve looks, fashion, appearance, how you conduct yourself , how appealing you are, how nice your smile, how good looking you are, and yes Hair-style. It is now a competion of who can entertain the public best. Folks it is just a TV show - its entertainment at its best. Enjoy it.

Okay, all of you people that say Sanjaya is "talented" and that "he can sing" are just pissing me off. He has the fastest selling album of all time, but was voted off the show. Granted, I think Taylor Hicks is pretty good, but the most talented did not win. Two seasons of this will definitely put the show in decline. It's time for Sanjaya to go. I wish him well and with some voice coaching and performing, he will get better and should try to make another run at it, but until that time…bye bye!

Well Well Well… First of all his little fans need to learn how to respect people if they expect others to do the same. If you knew how to read you would see that i didnt disrespect the kid. I liked him when he first auditioned but for the past month he just doesnt have it anymore. He shows no expression. He's not into the songs, MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE to the beat or something!when he performs…oh boy… It looks like he is not trying. I know he is trying a little but it's just not good enough. Another thing… I feel really bad for sanjaya because howard stern shouldnt influence people to vote for him. America should be able to have their own opinion and vote for who they want. If i were Sanjaya I would feel embarrassed knowing that a lot of my votes are coming from people who are influenced by howard stern. Also I would feel bad becoming an american idol knowing that someone else deserved it(PEOPLE who earned their votes through their singing, personality, talent and wonderful mind blowing performances)

Sanjaya was the worst on the Top24. Pls, DON'T EVER, compare him to Taylor Hicks. Taylor Hicks is a performer and can actually sing very well. Sanjaya on the other hand, cannot! So I am sooo happy he's gone. Thanks for waking up America. It's for Sanjaya's sake anyway.
