Breaking: Delta Zeta Takes Giant Step Against Diversity By Kicking Out All The Fatsos And Ethnic Chicks

Ugly%20sorority%20girls.JPG

Ugly people. It seems like they're everywhere these days, doesn't it? From the heinous man who sells you your cigarettes to those unsightly characters who ride the subway, walking around the city isn't exactly a pretty sight.

Thankfully, a courageous group of attractive girls have finally decided to do something about it.

That's right, according to yesterday's New York Times, the Delta Zeta women of DePauw University have decided to take a long overdue stand against uglies and foreigners by throwing out all the undateable members of their sorority.

Apparently concerned about their negative image, the quick-thinking members of Delta Zeta did what any rexy, laxative-inhaling sorority would do: made up an excuse to get rid of those co-eds deemed "not attractive enough" for Greek life.

Worried that a negative stereotype of the sorority was contributing to a decline in membership that had left its Greek-columned house here half empty, Delta Zeta’s national officers interviewed 35 DePauw members in November, quizzing them about their dedication to recruitment. They judged 23 of the women insufficiently committed and later told them to vacate the sorority house.

The 23 members included every woman who was overweight. They also included the only black, Korean and Vietnamese members. The dozen students allowed to stay were slender and popular with fraternity men — conventionally pretty women the sorority hoped could attract new recruits. Six of the 12 were so infuriated they quit.

Delta Zeta, we commend you. Congratulations for sticking to your convictions and making the world a prettier place.

Oh, and don't forget to regurgitate your lunches on your way to this afternoon's KKK meeting. That way, you'll be extra wasted at tonight's "Skinny Girls Only" fraternity mixer, and all the more likely to score a one-night stand with a guy who's neither good-looking or well-endowed.

What's with the constant comments about men not being "well-endowed"? It's ironic, especially since the point of this story seems to be how fucked up it is to judge people solely on the basis of the body they were born with.

So, it's not cool to devalue and ostracize fat and ethnic girls, but it's totally cool to devalue and ostracize men who don't fit our fucked-up conventional standards for "masculinity"?

This is a crass and unfair portrayal of the situation and Greek life as a whole. Let's try to exercise some level of decency and responsibility, shall we?

    Note to Commenters 1 & 2:

The post wasn't meant to imply that all sorority girls are superficial xenophobes any more than it was intended to suggest all frat guys are small-penised alcoholics.

(For the record, I happen to like both sorority girls and fraternity parties. And, if it weren't for Greek life, I never would have met some of my very best drinking buddies).

Anyhow, I had hoped to suggest that those stereotypes are about as ridiculous as a bunch of Delta Zeta girls kicking out their fat/unattractive sisters as part of an effort to enhance their image.

So, to clarify: meant to mock the Delta Zeta chapter at De Pauw University for being anti-fatty, not to imply they are representative of sorority girls everywhere.

    Hope that helps,
    –Debbie

I went to DePauw, and you might want to re-read the article - it's actually the Delta Zeta national organization that came in and did this. It was completely out of the DePauw chapter's hands. That's kind of a big difference. The DePauw chapter actually only has 6 people left after this - 23 were told to leave, and 6 others quit - they were definitely not "anti-fatty". The DePauw chapter was not being stereotypical - it was the national organization.

Lol, "anti-fatties". These people have been watching too many NBC's Heroes episodes.

I think this whole thing is hilarious, to be honest. I am a DZ and I know girls at Depauw. Our national headquarters sent us all an email letting us know what actually went on there.

My questions to those of you who clearly don't understand are:
    1. Do you actually think girls got kicked out merely because they were fat/ugly.. etc? In our bylaws, it states that we do not judge people by their ethnicity, religion, race or any other ridiculous standard.

    2. Remember when your mother told you that just because someone said it, doesn't make it true? My advice is to go ask an insider what they think. Rumors get you nowhere.

    3. This is a comment not a question but anyway… I have several girls in my chapter who are overweight, many who are of different ethnic backgrounds, and most of the women in my house of 120 people are outraged at the fact that we would be unaccepting or "rexy, laxative-inhaling" sorority girls.

Sorority life is judged all too often, I take pride in being a member of Delta Zeta and of the Greek Community at my University. Here we are known as the laid-back house who just likes to have a good time.

Our school newspaper, even though we are in close vicinity of Depauw, did not even print anything about this "story" because everyone here knows it is completely ridiculous. I hope some of you come to the same realization.

Remember when the DZ national officials said that they didn't kick people out because they were not white, thin, or stereotypically attractive to white guys? Remember when just because they said that, it did not make it true? It's too bad that all but the thin white girls did not have enough "team spirit"…I can't imagine why they weren't full of zeal to recruit for DZ…can you?!

Really? Are you serious? To be perfectly honest - this chapter at Depauw University has NEVER been the pretty or the skinny chapter. NEVER. If the reason the national reps came in was simply to get rid of these women - why did they wait so long. the chapter has been around for nearly 100 years. This is NOT about fat or skinny…pretty or ugly. This is about the fact that this chapter wasn't going to make it two more years without some type of intervention. Last year - this chapter offered membership bids to 60 women and not one accepted. Not one. Unless something changed, there wouldn't be a delta zeta left at Depauw at all. I am sorry about how this happened and know that there are hurt feelings. But that wasn't anyone's intention and the media has blown this way out of proportion.
