You remember Brian Ellner as that homo who campaigned to be your Democratic Manhattan borough president — and got more attention for dragging out his "partner" Simon in TV spots than any of his policies. Well, like most gays trying to make it in politics, Brian didn't succeed.
And then Mayor Michael Bloomberg stepped in, offering Ellner a hand in his campaign for reelection. Ellner will be reduced to simply a figure head to secure votes from the GLBT crowd, but it's a smart move for Blooms-B.
Ellner's recruitment is part of the Republican mayor's plan to snag a significant portion of the gay vote, even though Democratic rival Fernando Ferrer has already lined up endorsements from numerous gay groups.
Now heed the lesson learned, kids.
For the gay media hopefuls, it's blogging that can land you an authentic journo gig. And for gay politico hopefuls, it's whoring your boyfriend in television commercials that can get you an authentic flack gig.
