Brian Williams Slammed on His Own Blog for McCaffery Silence

So BriWi is back from vay-kay and he's super psyched to tell his blog readers about America's holiday spirit he encountered on the highways of this great nation.

Um, except? There is absolutely no mention in Williams' Daily Nightly blog about General Barry McCaffrey shilling for the defense industry by masquerading as an objective military analyst all over NBC News, while 30 Rock should've known it was aiding and abetting the military man's bank account.

And you know who doesn't stand for this kind of silent hypocrisy? That's right: blog commenters. Let's take a look at the notes to Mr. Williams left by those reading quite far into his silence.

So, nothing on McCaffrey? Do you really think you can just ignore this and expect us to trust you ever again?

Any plans for Mr. Williams, Anchor and Managing Editor, to address the latest NYT's article in a non-spin, serious manner? Or will your organization continue to dismiss and belittle serious journalism just because it is embarrassing to NBC and Mr Williams, Anchor and Managing Editor?

Tim, Chicago

Mr. Williams,
How long will it be before your conscience or your shame compells you to publicly, and honestly, address NBC's disgraceful promotion of General McCaffrey as as an independent military analyst? The NYT's article is a devastating indictment of your shoddy journalistic ethics, and your ongoing efforts to obscure or dismiss this scandal.
The story has only grown since the initial reporting in April of '08. You need to offer more than snide dismissals, defensive back-pedaling, or protestations of innocence.

Tsk tsk guys. We are all feeling hurt and betrayed by Defense Solution's infiltration into NBC and MSNBC while brass played dumb. But Brian Williams, as well as the rest of the staff at the network, is almost assuredly being placed under a gag order not to talk about McCaffrey's involvement with the peacock, and let G.E.'s spin guys handle it. (Why do we assume this? Because back when the Times in April blew the lid off the sordid relationship between news networks and retired military experts, Williams felt quite free about blogging his reaction.)

Until then, you can hold your breath on Williams blogging about a privatized military operative taking his station hostage, but it won't do you any good until he's given orders from above to read the pre-written statement that Jeff Zucker signed off on.

But hey, Williams didn't comment on GE chief Jeff Immelt being sort of a racist, either.

For good measure, here's Williams welcoming McCaffrey on his show back in June:
