It's been awhile since we've thought about Budget Travel spin-off Girlfriend Getaways (not the magazine for Vermont lesbians that it sounds like). A few months ago we went to the party, snagged some wine, found out we were the only bloggers not asked to blog for their site, and left. Never to think of it again. Until today.

We're hearing from sources very close to the magazine that Budget Travel has been "bleeding staffers," including chief senior editor and Girlfriend Getaways EIC Nina Willdorf — who fled to Travel + Leisure.

Evidently, BT EIC Erik Torkells has been taking much of the credit for the frisky little spin-off … and considering Nina told us to our faces "this is my baby" we can only assume she jumped to T+L due to the diss. (Interestingly enough, the senior editor she replaced, Jason Cochran, is also rumored dipping into T+L's pool.)

In addition, rumors are swirling that Torkells' top photo editor, a senior online editor, and an assistant editor are fleeing. A good chunk of staffers for a smaller pub to lose, right? Which could explain the lack of tasteful send-offs. Says one insider:

It has gotten so bad that Torkells has decreed that goodbye parties … are no longer permitted, because they send the message that fleeing Budget Travel is something to be rewarded!

It's probably for the better. We're pretty sure the weekly champagne and strawberry parties that were held every time staffers left a certain other (unrelated) Budget mag were what eventually sank that little pub.

And lastly, as if the slashings couldn't get any more entertaining, we're told former Budget Travel editor Matthew Link has already been ousted from his new job. The former Out Traveler chief was supposed to spearhead Sherman's Travel print spin-off. He's been fired — before the first issue is even out.
