Back in his TRL days, Carson Daly proved he was good at sucking up to celebrities. Turns out, he’s good at sucking up to executives too.
Daly will be the first late night talk show host to cross the picket line and resume production of Last Call With Carson Daly. The show is taping this week, and will begin airing Monday or Tuesday of next week.
Knowing that he couldn’t come up with jokes himself, The Smoking Gun has obtained an email Daly sent to his friends, family and doctor New York [Ed: If Carson finds doctor humor funny, reruns of The Colbert Report will be more entertaining] asking them call into a joke hotline.
In the email below, Carson encouraged people to pass the request along, writing, “I’m only emailing a very small group of people because I’m lazy, I’ll trust your judgement (sic) on who you ask to leave a message.”
That’s funny: the writers also trusted Carson not to cross the picket line. Looks like Justin Timberlake was right: what goes around, comes around.

hey, not for nothing… but, at least carson is thinking of his entire staff, not just the 3 or 4 writers that i’m sure get paid enough for their lame work anyway!
the strike doesn’t just affect writers and media conglomerates… when the wga hastily went on strike, they left loads of others without work or pay. the audience coordinator, the cameraman, the assistant, and the producers. all without compensation right before the holidays.
others should care more about their entire staff, not just the writers… most of whom get paid plenty in comparison… and not be afraid to cross the picket lines.
I feel bad for Carson. I’m sure he’s just doing what a lot of other hosts would like to do. The writers are so elitest, and 1/2 of them don’t even want to be on strike. I think Carson without writers might actually be an improvement anyway!
I called the number, it’s a non-working number. I’m not a fan of Carson, but he didn’t get where he is being an idiot. It’s a fake email people!!
For Carson it’s more of a publicity stunt than anything else. I didn’t even know he had a show until today!

What does Carson have to benefit from staying out during the strike? He’s not a WGA member, so he has never agreed to continue striking. He employs a whole FOUR writers, and to support those four people he would’ve left 75 people without jobs.
If Carson hadn’t returned, he probably would’ve lost his job. Would anyone have shown Carson any sympathy if he was fired? Of course not. People would make jokes about it because, as everyone knows, Daly is a bit of a douche.
And he’s hardly soliciting scab jokes. He’s setting up a bit where he plays the terrible, hackeneyed jokes and makes fun of himself for not having writers to draw up good material.
