DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN MSNBC is still having trouble separating Chelsea Clinton and “pimped out.” But at least a woman said it this time. [TVN]

Last week, David Shuster was indefinitely suspended for suggesting that the Hillary Clinton campaign was “pimping out” first daughter Chelsea, the most likable member of the Clinton entourage.

Chelsea Clinton has always been a bizarre public figure. In 1992, she was her dad’s biggest supporter. But since becoming first daughter, she has understandably struggled with her lack of privacy as an adult. Until Iowa, Chelsea mostly hid in the background of her mom’s campaign.

In Maine, where Barack Obama won one of four primary elections over the weekend, Hillary Clinton wrote NBC News president Steve Capus, “Nothing justifies the kind of debasing language that David Shuster used and no temporary suspension or half-hearted apology is sufficient.”

No one denies that Shuster’s verb choice leaves something to be desired, but indefinite suspension seems sufficient to say the least, especially considering that that Chelsea has been “pimped out” before. After all, how many teenagers do you know who held the hands of both parents on leisurely walks to a presidential helicopter following an investigation into their father’s infidelity?

While MSNBC correspondent David Shuster has been suspended indefinitely for suggesting the Clinton campaign was “pimping out” Chelsea, with her making private phone calls to superdelegates and even The View gals, consider this: Keith Olbermann made a very similar comment on Sept. 20.

Poor Shelly Sindland. The senior correspondent for Fox 61 in Hartford has had no luck getting Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama to chat with her at recent voter meet-and-greet events that had no scheduled reporter Q&As.

In Hartford on Monday, Hillary Clinton totally snubbed Sindland. And then last night at roundtable a Stamford diner, Michelle Obama wouldn’t answer any questions from Sindland. The nerve!

As she said, “I had more freedom of the press in the former Soviet Union.”

Okay, this isn’t the Soviet Union. Like not even a little bit. Even though Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama are public figures, they don’t owe answers to every reporter in every situation ever.

And Chelsea Clinton was smart not to answer questions from that 9-year-old reporter for Scholastic News in Iowa. Because whatever she said would have been national news; even what she didn’t say was national news.

With a 24-hour new cycle and YouTube capturing every tear, politicians have a right to say no to questions occasionally. Killing inquisitive journalists in the Soviet Union, or even modern-day Russia, that was crossing the line.

Look, everyone likes Oprah. She’s smart, she’s fun, she’s relatable and – aside from that awkward James Frey kerfuffle – she even has good taste in books. So the only way for Hillary Clinton to combat Oprah on the pulpit is with the only other pseudo-political figure everyone can agree on: Chelsea Clinton.

In addition to possessing a relatively benign personality coupled with moderately hot Jewess appeal, Chelsea appeals to everyone who’s ever endured a prolonged “awkward” phase.

Maybe with all the connections in the free world, publishing is a lucrative venture. At least that’s what Jack Ford, Gerald’s son, is hoping.

The former first kid and part of the founding staff of Outside magazine is launching a new media project, Mountain Time Publishing. The company will run a bi-weekly lifestyle magazine insert for 20 small daily newspapers in ski resort towns. The inserts will start before Christmas.

After a childhood of press conferences, apparently publishing is the ultimate follow-up career. Too bad we’ll have to wait at least eight years for Chelsea’s tell-all.

Wedding crashers, take heed! Anyone thinking of slipping into the upcoming Davison/Fox nuptials in D.C. will have to get past secret service first, owing to the fact that Chelsea Clinton (and her somewhat more famous parental units) will be in attendance.

THE anticipated presence of Chelsea Clinton and her parents at an Oct. 27 wedding in Washington, D.C., has the planners in a tizzy. Chelsea’s childhood best friend, Nicole Davison, is marrying hedge-fund analyst Michael Fox. Chelsea, the maid of honor, will be there with her parents. Guests are being warned not to bother Bill and Hillary Clinton. When the ex-president hosted the couple’s engagement party at his Chappaqua home, some guests were told to be on their “best behavior” and avoid talking to the family about inappropriate topics.

And, judging by the tone of this Page Six item, those calculating Clintons are already doing everything they can to avoid detracting attention from the bride and groom having to fraternize with the general public. Meanwhile, though they won’t be able to have their pictures taken with the dynamic duo, fellow guests can still look forward to hearing Hillary’s awkward, high-pitched fake laugh at all the appropriate moments in the wedding speeches.

No matter how clean the break-up, no daughter wants to hear that her father still loves her ex. But that’s just want Bill Clinton announced last night at a book party for Chelsea’s ex-BF, Ian Klaus.

“I’m biased because I love the author … but I think it’s exceptionally well written,” Clinton said to the crowd.

The P.R. people at Knopf, which is publishing Klaus’s new book, are probably the only ones who don’t find her father’s doting inappropriate.

And what does Chelsea Clinton’s current beau, Marc Mezvinsky, think about the relationship? All he would say was his standard, “I’m sorry, I don’t talk to the press.”

Come on, Marc. You’ll never get a book deal with that attitude.

In case you haven’t had your fill this morning of stories about the first family promoting new books you’ll likely never read, here’s a late-breaking tidbit about Chelsea Clinton’s ex-boyfriend’s latest tome.

FIRST PAL: There are obviously no hard feelings between Bill Clinton and Chelsea’s ex-boyfriend, Ian Klaus. The former president — and perhaps soon to be first man — is hosting a party on Wednesday in honor of Klaus’ new book, “Elvis Is Titanic.” And although the notion of ex-girlfriend’s father as book party host certainly isn’t customary, a spokeswoman for Knopf, the book’s publisher, added that Chelsea and her friends will be in attendance. In fact, Klaus dedicated the book to Chelsea.

Meanwhile, we’re sure Ian Klaus’ decision to dedicate the book to Chelsea had everything to do with an elevated level of emotional maturity and sheer respect for her influence on his writing ability and nothing whatsoever to do with his wanting to brazenly capitalize on her name and have former president Bill Clinton host his book party.
