At Hardball's 10th anniversary party in D.C. last night, host Chris Matthews couldn't help getting a little bit nostalgic about the glory days. Which sounds normal enough until you realize that he was actually talking about the Clinton administration. Reports the DC Examiner:
"The Clinton camp, [Matthews] said, never put pressure on his bosses to silence him."
"'Not so this crowd,' he added, explaining that Bush White House officials — especially those from Vice President Cheney's office — called MSNBC brass to complain about the content of his show and attempted to influence its editorial content. 'They will not silence me!'" Matthews declared.
"'They've finally been caught in their criminality,' Matthews continued, although he did not specify the exact criminal behavior to which he referred."
It's not quite certain what Matthews means by "criminality," but it's nevertheless sad to to hear the angry philosopher inside him won't be silenced. Because if this guy keeps at it, he's going to start making Dan Rather look sane by comparison. [via TVNewser]

So, he made some comments and had a drink in his hand. Nothing he said was untrue, so I don't get what "news" this is.
jghj
Nothing Matthews said was "angry" or "insane".
A tv media pundit spilled the beans and outed the Cheney Administration (yep, the CHENEY administration) as having tried to put pressure on his cable network as well as try to silence *him* on you know — REPORTING the real news.
The only thing i fault Chris Matthews with is not having made this information public when it was actually happening. Because, you know, THAT TOO, is…. real news that the American public deserve to have reported to them.
What Elle D Bea said.
And: If the media weren't so self-referential and oblivious to the fact that it's carried the water for this administration and this war, we might not be well into the second administration of the most criminal presidency in history and many thousands of Iraqis and Americans would be alive.
Only wish Matthews was on to this sooner.
Why doesn't Chris Matthews talk about Obama's past history? Obama will not put his hand on his heart and "Pledge Allegiance" to our Flag and he will not wear a flag pin in his lapel. Also he is a Muslem so why would anyone want this man for the President of our country, not I
joycemat, 2 suggestions:
[1] please get your facts straight before speaking false information that will forever associate you with being a low information voter bent on not actually caring about, you know, fact-checking and verifying things first and thereby revealing an "agenda". You wouldn't want to be falsely accused of having a "hidden agenda", now would you?
It was NOT the Pledge of Allegiance" dear. It was the STANDING UP for the PLAYING or SINGING of THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.
[2] Flag Pin?? If not wearing a FLAG PIN on one's lapel supersedes all else in defining a person's love of their country, and if that's your criteria for determining one's patriotism, then I guess Hillary Clinton and John McCain aren't patriots either.
[3] Senator Obama is a Christian. Wish as you do that he were of a religion you seem to hate. Not all Muslims by the way, are radical extremists. Not all Christians are radical extremists like Pastor Hagee.
What a small small tiny little hateful fear-laden insecure-riddled bubble you must live it Joyce dear. Oh well. Enjoy it while you can. Will all that hate, fear and insecurity swirling around you, It's bound to burst at the mere mention of REALITY.
