No one is safe from the wrath of the right. Case in point: Christopher Buckley, the son of The National Review founder, William F. Buckley, was recently forced into resigning off his dad's own mag after he made an Obama endorsement in The Daily Beast.
So where does Buckley turn to after his own nepotism fails him? Why, back to Tina Brown's open arms/blog, of course:
One editor at National Review—a friend of 30 years—emailed me that he thought my opinions “cretinous.â€
Within hours of my endorsement appearing in The Daily Beast it became clear that National Review had a serious problem on its hands. So the next morning, I thought the only decent thing to do would be to offer to resign my column there. This offer was accepted—rather briskly!—by Rich Lowry, NR’s editor, and its publisher, the superb and able and fine Jack Fowler. I retain the fondest feelings for the magazine that my father founded, but I will admit to a certain sadness that an act of publishing a reasoned argument for the opposition should result in acrimony and disavowal.
Eek! Even the sons of the privileged can't get a break. Was Buckley fired? No, not in any official way. But when your own editors are calling you cretinous than it's probably time to hit the road.
But Buckley should be fine writing for Brown and Diller for now, and can always find support with the Huffpost crowd, who will most likely welcome a turncoat like Blakely as a martyr for the Obamanation after their loss of Joe Lieberman earlier this year.

correction…we do NOT miss Joe Lieberman.
It's like when Christopher Hitchens left the Nation, only this is much more civilised.
He wasn't "forced into resigning off his dad's own paper". He offered his resignation and it was accepted. And National Review is a magazine, not a "paper".
Not much of a stickler for a little thing like accuracy, are you?
@nocommen1: according to Buckley's own words, he was "sacked." Read the headline of his post, please.
drew:
Writers don't write headlines; editors do.
Buckley never said he was fired. He said he offered to resign and the offer was accepted. Read what he read. It helps.
*crickets chirp*
@nocommen1: Seriously dude? Read what I wrote, "Was Buckley fired? No, not in any official way. But when your own editors are calling you cretinous than it's probably time to hit the road."
lol @ Drew..
THese folks just don't read!!
Speaking of the neonuts, watch this video and get really scared! No wonder this guy ran off from the crazies..
This youtube clip is 10 minutes long but it is relevant and it discusses “VERBICIDE†and a particular case. Also, “verbicide†is what Oliver Wendell Holmes called “the violent treatment of a word with fatal results to its legitimate meaning.†This is damn scary!

Mr. Buckley and Kathleen Parker are discovering that the Republicans eat their own. I'm no fan of Ms. Parker's, but no one should receive emails saying that her mother should have aborted her. Stay classy, right wingers.
I think Mr. Buckley's offer to resign was to make things easier for the editor. I expect he thought the editor would… oh, I don't know, actually SUPPORT HIS OWN WRITER and tell people that the conservative movement can have a wide variety of opinions. SUPPORT HIS OWN WRITER, whose — I might add — own father FOUNDED THE MAGAZINE.
I heard that the hate mail that was coming into the magazine could have been construed as death threats. How can you not love those Evil Republicans?
