CNN Gets Its YouTubes Tied
'User Questions' Subjected To Behind-The-Scenes Tinkering

"Monday will deliver a milestone in presidential campaign history, as user-generated video drives a debate," wrote CNN as part of its pre-YouTube debate marketing bonanza.

But how much of the content was really user-generated? And how much of it was indirectly manufactured by CNN?

HuffPo looks to the questioners for answers.

CNN, which had exclusive control over which questions got asked in last night's co-production with YouTube, had a Kucinich supporter ask Dennis Kucinich a Kucinich question…

CNN didn't just "pick the questions." They identified contributors and in some cases worked with them to shape the video. Mark Strauss from Davenport, Iowa, asked what the candidates intend to do about healthcare for the elderly. He told OffTheBus that "CNN called him and requested that he re-shoot the question and keep it to twenty-seven seconds."

How very user-friendly.

Meanwhile, Ivanka Trump is reportedly being considered to moderate the upcoming MySpace-sponsored Town Hall discussions. Sure, she lacks the appropriate journalism credentials of, say, an Anderson Cooper, but then again no one's ever accused (MySpace owner) Rupert Murdoch of having overly high standards.

As opposed to, say, CNN.
