Democrats to John Edwards: Nobody's Home
Disgraced politician can't get a word in edgewise

John Edwards is having a rough month. There is still speculation that he is lying about not being the father of Rielle Hunter's baby, he was dis-invited to the current par-tay for the DNC in Denver this week, and now he can't even get a hold of his former friends and staffers to apologize.

The story plays out like Edward's staffers were the ones personally betrayed by the affair. The sounds of so many bad break-ups resound in this post like an echo-chamber of college relationships:

When Edwards reached one longtime confidant asking for advice, he was cut off with a terse: "I don't want you to call me again."

The conversation ended abruptly.

"I let you down, and I'm sorry," is a common refrain of these messages, said another top ex-assistant on the receiving end of one of the calls.

"It was kind of pathetic, to tell you the truth," said the ex-aide, who said he didn't return the call and doesn't expect to speak to his former boss again.

There is a smack of injustice here, if only because the Dems managed to rally enough good faith around the male Clinton when he was caught with an intern in his lap. Then again, Edwards isn't president, and he's not even a senator any more, so it's that much easier throw John Edwards out, and drown his love child in the bathwater.

Edwards need to just go travel for a few months and stay out of the limelight. They can well afford it, and maybe the anger and disappointment will lessen someday.

Curious that John Edwards still hasn't won Keith Olbermann's "Worse Person in the World" title, yet.

Bill Clinton's wife was not a sympathetic, vulnerable, terminally ill woman who had gone through the tragedy of the death of one of her children.

Bill Clinton is sexually amoral, John Edwards is sexually amoral and vile to boot.

Only way John Edwards can make a comeback is if he stays committed to his wife and family until she's gone. After that he must remain a widower and a devoted father to his children. He will never be able to be with that bimbo and her child unless he plans to live in Nepal!

There's no injustice here. Clinton got impeached for god's sake. It's because of Clinton that Edwards' affair that resulted in a child with an idiot bimbo is so unacceptable. This country cannot go through all of that crap again. AND this idiot had the audacity to do this WHILE HE WAS RUNNING and WHILE HE WAS CLAIMING THAT ALL CANDIDATES SHOULD BE SCRUTINIZED. Can you say hubris?

I swear to god, if he actually does marry Rielle Hunter after Elizabeth edwards dies, I hope he's planning to live on some desert island somewhere, because if I ever see him, I will humiliate him.

I still think that if Ted Kennedy can politically recover from Chappaquidek, which he most certainly did, then John Edwards can recover from this misfortune. Ted Kennedy's scandel was just as scorned, and Ted went on to serve another 40 years in office.

I think everyone should forgive John Edwards, and think about Edwards' message and policy proposals which are sorely needed in the Democratic party.

Alice, no offense, but I doubt you're capable of humiliating him. Humiliation is predicated on having a sense of shame, something John Edwards lacks. People like him with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) see everything in black & white terms, always casting themselves in the most positive light, which naturally requires the rest of us are 'bad'. He's incurable. Everything is an act, designed to shore-up his view of himself.

If you see him, feel free to castrate him, though.

Yeah, ok, castrate instead of humiliate.

The selfishness of this guy is unbelievable.

Chappaquiddick? Comparable? I think the thing that distinguishes Edwards' level of narcissism above all of those guys (Kennedys, Clintons, Gingrich, Hyde, ALL of them) is that Edwards was running for office, AFTER the gauntlet had been thrown down, AFTER Clinton was destroyed by this very thing. All of those other guys ESPECIALLY the Kennedys in the 60's, felt completely safe. Edwards MUST have known better, and not only did it anyway, but DARED the media to come after him. DARED them.

And if the timing had been different and if he HAD gotten the nomination, think of where we would be now.

Nope, Edwards is worse even than Kennedys.

I like that he suggests he had a narcissism problem, like it was some kind of flu bug, but now it's All Better. You either have it, or you don't, bucko. And you do. That means the rest of us know not to trust you, and that you're totally self-serving. While this may be true of many politicians, you're a done deal.

And unlike most of the aforementioned offenders, Edwards made a point of shoving his homestyle marriage at us, used his wife as a prop, both when she was healthy and popular, and when she was dying & popular. He condemned others for similar acts, & invited people to view his stellar 'character.' He's a case unto himself.

And it's funny - I used to think he was a pleasant enough looking man. Now, I notice that his hair looks like a lid, that he's got a round, silly face, & horrid teeth - he also looks small & snivelling. It's amazing what 'character' does to shade perceptions of good looks.

"Looks like Elizabeth has had enough of John's lies." Thank God she's finally coming to her senses. Hell, she could probably make a run for the White House here self, now. One of the biggest reasons Hillary lost was that people didn't like her 'standing by her man' through all those affairs.
