Wouldn't you know: Dennis Kucinich is still in the running to be America's next top leader!
Remember when Chris Dodd and Joe Biden dropped out, and then Bill Richardson did, and you just figured Kucinich also left the race but perhaps you missed that announcement? Turns out, you didn't! And he really, really wants to play with the big boys known as Obama, Clinton, and Edwards — so much so that he's taken MSNBC's decision not to include him in tonight's Brian Williams-moderated-Nevada-debate all the way to court.
And it worked.
"Senior Clark County District Court Judge Charles Thompson ruled that Kucinich, an Ohio congressman, must be allowed to participate," says the AP. "If he is excluded, Thompson said he would issue an injunction to stop the televised debate."
To which MSNBC VP Jeremy Gaines said in a statement, "'We disagree with the judge's decision and are filing an appeal." Natch!

I'm not supporting Kucinich, but the steady stream of laffs tossed in his direction by bloggers is rather irritating. I say good on you, judge.
It's true that, when there is a very close contest between the leading contenders (in the primary season OR the general election), the so-called minor or second tier candidates rarely poll well. However, this does NOT mean they have no appeal; in fact, Kucinich draws surprisingly large and supportive crowds. Also, without Kucinich at the debate there will be no strongly anti-war voice, no one presenting national health care as an alternative, no one discussing impeachment (which even George McGovern is now publically favoring). A majority of people polled consistently want that type of candidate included in debates, even if they make it clear they will not vote for him. So why shouldn't they get to see the candidates they want to see? We're only talking about four people here, folks. The Republicans made room for TEN CANDIDATES in debate after debate.
It would seem to me that Democrats in particular, who make a big show of being inclusive and tolerant, should be demanding that Kucinich be included in debates, at least prior to Super Tuesday. Hell, when audience polling is done after debates are concluded, he comes out on top most of the time! Amazing, but true. This isn't a loopy, self-absorbed, tin foil hat-wearer like Alan Keyes. Kucinich is a serious guy who makes important points with which a substantial percentage of Democratic partisans agree, even if their pragmatism prevents them from pulling the lever next to his name at crunch time. So stop whining, MSNBC and all you bloggers out there, and let him debate.
Dennis is the only one I will honour with my vote. Dennis Kucinich IS one of the big boys, in public service for over 30 years and a 6 term congressman. He is being censored from the media and is not allowed to be heard because he cannot be bought and takes no funding from the corporations or the defense contractors. Dennis Kucinich is kept from the debates, because in the short sound bytes he is allowed on the debates he has attended, he has told more truth than all the other candidates put together. If someone is left out of the debates or ignored by the media than of course, they do not poll well, all of this has a domino effect. In NH there was strong evidence of voter fraud. In Iowa, the Democratic party ignored him like he did not exist, because he would not cozy up to AARP which sells insurance. Voters have a right to hear what he has to say so they can make an informed choice once they get to the polls to vote. It is time that ALL VOICES were heard, what happened to our democracy? Since when does NBC tell me who and what and when I need to hear a candidate or even IF I CAN? GO, DENNIS, GO!
It's always entertaining reading comments from people that don't connect these facts:
1. Media like ABC and NBC have kept many Americans from hearing and seeing Congressman Kucinich.
2. Many Americans haven't heard or seen Congressman Kucinich.
3. Many Americans don't get out to vote for Congressman Kucinich.
Un-electable is a recently invented concept. Here's how it works. You get yourself a big audience by pandering to everyone's baser interests and then you holler as often as you can "LOSER" about anyone that threatens your profits. Except instead of hollering "loser", which sounds so "high-school-cafeteria", you shout "UN-ELECTABLE" which is meaningless but new and sounds kind of world-wise. Its purpose is to convince people that something has already happened when it hasn't even started, so as to cripple anyone you consider threatening.
I'm not buying. I still subscribe to the old fashioned theory that in a democracy the election is determined by the Americans who go into the booth and vote. Then you find out who was “electable”.
If we want the President to be a person who represents Americans instead of corporations we're going to have to get used to the idea that we'll have to look for that person beyond the curtain that corporate media constructs.
This President of the people is unlikely to have a war chest (aptly named) of $100 million at their disposal, as Clinton and Obama do right now, and so the message of people like Congressman Kucinich is going to be that much harder to find and hear.
I also don't buy someone "looking Presidential". I'm not interested in my President's TV ratings. I'm interested in their character and their record on the issues.
By the way the suit that Congressman Kucinich brought against NBC was for breach of contract. NBC made a contract with Congressman Kucinich and then broke it. That was the judge’s ruling.
Congressman Kucinich has my vote, and the votes of everyone I can manage to win over for him.
