Did NYT Media Reporter Tim Arango Just Get Out of Rehab?

And is he auditioning for a CNN gig?

Is Tim Arango gunning for a job at CNN? The praise he lavishes on CNN today in the New York Times may have been warranted – they get credit for 7.6 million people tuning in to a February debate, and they finally beat Fox News at something – but Tim has a habit of writing very favorably about potential employers.

When he was a Fortune, he gave the Fox Business Network grand cover story treatment, though the network wasn't exactly on solid footing, and even said CNBC was "running scared" from the competition. Did the CNBC elbow come from sour grapes? While Tim was at the New York Post, he printed blowjob pieces about CNBC execs, where he was hoping to become an on-air employee. It never happened, and he ended up accepting an offer from the Times.

Though it's a cushy gig, it's no secret Tim has always longed for an on-air spot.

But potential employers might be wary: We hear he just returned to the Times after two months of "medical leave," which many allege may have been a stint in rehab. (Arango didn't return our multiple calls for comment.)

Indeed, many in his circle of story subjects, colleagues, and sources report his looking "scruffy and scrawny." He "didn't look right," says one source who saw him at the end of '07, which is one way of saying "the smoke smelled funny" when alleging somebody was smoking weed.

We're told he doesn't resemble anything like the hottie in the photo here, taken during his days at the Post.

Arango started at the Times around November of last year, publishing a widely-read story on Time Warner's Jeff Bewkes just before Christmas. (Some might argue that softball story, plus today's piece on CNN, is his way of buttering up future bosses like he usually does.)

It was also around this time he was reportedly going to propose to his girlfriend Alexandra (we may have her name wrong) Victoria, the daughter of Washington Post conservative columnist George Will. From what we understand, Arango may have never got down on one knee; he shipped off for his medical leave around this time, forcing his Times colleagues to pick up the slack.

So while he's been welcomed back by those eager to hand over his work load, his return isn't exactly one of open arms.

Since you mentioned his "hottie" photo, I will say that at first glance, I would have sworn up and down that this was a picture of Dr. Will from Big Brother. Superficial comment for a serious story, but still… you can't deny the resemblance!

hmmmm "chinanski" huh?

as in henry chinaski from charles bukowski's books?

seems like one new york times reporter is all too familiar with bukowski's work-

is someone at the times playing arango's bitch? or is this arango himself?

Here's "chinaski" comments on a tim arango story:

we all know he was in rehab. and that's fine……but who's the real whore doing the dirty work?

More importantly — and less personally — how was "Presidential Primaries Lift CNN" a softball story? It simply included a series of facts.

Different Chinanski douche bag. I'll go with Fante from now on. I expect this sleaze from the 800 pound elephant at Fox News, but to write this bullshit up. I know the whole you're playing with peoples lives line is lost on assholes like yourself, but the payback will come and it will be a bitch.

There is special place in hell for reporters and rags like you. Tim Arango is a genuinely decent guy who has never stooped to the level of journalistic low brow that you and your crew does on a daily basis.

And speaking of journalism, you write like shit. What in God's name is this supposed to mean:

"Indeed, many in his circle of story subjects, colleagues, and sources report his looking ???????scruffy and scrawny.??????? He ???????didn????????t look right,??????? says one source who saw him at the end of ???????07, which is one way of saying ???????the smoke smelled funny??????? when alleging somebody was smoking weed."

Seriously, I've been tossing this gem around in my head for some time now and I have no idea what you mean. What a tortured, confusing analogy. You must have really sucked on the "this is to that" section of the SATs.

Of course, writing indecipherably could be some sort of legal strategy so that you don't get sued for libel.

Carry on.

This smells like you just got duped by Irina Brigante, or whatever the total biatch at Fox is called. Tim can be a cock just like the rest of us, but to smear his journalism like this really isn't warranted and it looks just like all the smears she's orchestrated about every other journalist who's dared do any reporting that doesn't agree with Fox. Now that'd be a decent post if you had the nuts for it.
