As an African-American, I don't feel offended by Robert Downey's makeup. Yes, you labeled it as "blackface" but when I look at him, I see an actor with a realistic and remarkable make-up job. Compared to real black-face antics where people have used shoe polish and "black" paint, which is ridiculous. I do find "black face" offensive because it is a callous exaggeration of a skin color. However, Robert Downey Jr.'s makeup is very natural and they have made his character very believable. If he were to walk down the street, no one would know the difference, so it not meant to be funny or rude. Blackface, on the other hand, has only one purpose and that it to mock and be mean-spirited. Therefore, I don't consider Downey's make-up as black face, I consider it to be character make up.
