When the gossips accused Britney Spears as having her breasts enlarged, the still-stable pop tart hosted Saturday Night Live and opened with a skit where her alien boobies moved around on her chest. Ashlee Simpson, after an embarrassing lip-sync turn on the show, returned to prove she could perform without a background track.
Saturday Night Live has always been the place for reputation resuscitation. And for Ellen Page, who hosted this weekend's show, the tradition wasn't lost.
After Michael Musto blogged his suspicions about the Oscar nominee's sexual proclivities, and her publicist Kelly Bush, who happens to be gay, went on a rampage denying the rumors, Page smartly used the show as an opportunity to address, and comedically refute, the notion that she might play for the same team.
She joins what might be a storied SNL micro-tradition of sexuality defense: Not only is SNL regularly used to poke fun at and move past your previous blunders, but it's also the place to set your orientation straight. (See what we did there?) Jake Gyllenhaal's Dreamgirls drag number meets this criteria.
Not that there's anything wrong with being gay, of course – we have a gay friend! – but let's not kid ourselves about your earning potential in Hollywood should you make your business everyone's business.
After the jump, that infamous Britney video, and Jake's performance.

I don't think she was refuting claims about her being gay. If she was trying to make a statement with this skit, I think it was more along the lines of "My orientation is no one's business." From what I've read all over the internet, this skit has left things more up in the air for people.
She didn't refute anything. It was left wide open.
She didn't refute it. And Michael Musto is a jackass.
I also don't think she was refuting the claim. If anything, I think she was making fun of lez stereotypes.
Ellen page is gay! She's dating a lady named Paula Robbins , 30, who lives in Nova Scotia.
