Emasculating Pay Stubs

You'll have to wait ANOTHER FULL QUARTER!!! to learn whether Bonnie Fuller, having left AMI as editorial director, earned the $2 million severance package she was gonna get if she left the company in March, since she stayed until May. In the meantime, know this: Fuller was on track to earn $2.4 million in 2008, up from $2.1 million in 2007 — both more than David Pecker's paycheck of $1.6 million in '08. [WWD]

I'm sure her leaving was negotiated in detail — she got severance. I question the smucks who over paid for her in the first place. Much is made of her contribution, yet I see this all as CYA posturing. No one wants to go back to the financial backers and admit to a big mistake. You don't fix problems by throwing money at it. This is a sign of not really knowing the business and thinking publishing is only about money. I really question AMI's financial acumen given all the problems they've had with their books.
