The Tsukiji fish market is open again in Tokyo, despite concerns over tourists' hygiene. Which sounds *snore* and all, until you see what those Tsukiji fish farmers were really worried about. Like these British fish lickers.

These drunks should have been jailed. People need to grow up and learn to respect other people. These punk kid drunks need to learn manners and jail time might have taught them that. Too bad someone didnt see it that way.
Imagine that, they were fron London! I really doubt any American's would pull that. What a bunch of idiots!
@krissy: I'm sure -some- American's would pull that crap, but I'm glad they weren't American. We have enough bad rep as it is. D: Those idiots disgust me! I had a hard time watching this video. I agree with Ron. They should have seen some jail time.
licking tuna? its pretty funny when you consider the double meaning. prolly how the idea came up in the first place
@ron: I don't feel sorry for any Japanese fishermen. These people beat dolphins to death and kill whales. Personally I would never spend my money in Japan until they stop killing dolphins. That behavior is worse than those drunks.
@krissy: Why would you doubt Americans would do that? Of course we have just as many idiots as any other country. I see them everyday when they come into my store.
@kyle:
Kyle: Wow. Are you proud you figured that one out all by yourself? It probably flashed through most of our minds for just about a second, and it even would have passed through my grandkids' brains. So, really, did it even need to be mentioned in an mixed forum? Moron.
@Better Left Unsaid: thanks for the attention grandma (or grandpa?), if everybody ignored me i would have been devastated. Uve got some messed up grandkids
These are the same fishermen that cut off sharks' fins and then let them sink to the bottom to die a lingering death. How would you like to have your arms and legs cut off and then be thrown to let the elements and exposure take you? I really don't care what people do to the Japanese fishermen.
"Yet again, one stupid America tourist makes the rest of us look like inconsiderate, rude jerks and ruins the fun for everyone else."
They were British…..
@kyle: cRAZY
@Shaydie: yOUR RIGHT i LOVE SHARKS.
@Kristin: So they kill dolphins. Big deal. The US kills scores of dolphins every day with sea-scraping nets, not to mention all the suffering we put show dolphins and whales through as they perform every day for popular entertainment. Do you own a TV? Buy Sony products, such as CDs or DVDs? Have a game system, such as a Wii or playstation? Then youre doing the equilivant of spending money in Japan, since profits from these items go directly to Japanese companies, if not the Japanese Economy itself.
They're even worse than Americans or British they are Australian.
It's hard to imagine Americans doing that because the idiot American wouldn't travel to Japan. Far too fancy for them.
@Kristin: Dolphin is a daily food in Japan, It tastes great too! Have you ever been to a pig, chicken or cow farm or slaughter hosue? Now those places are disgusting.
Like my mom always said. If it tastes good - LICK IT!
The so called fishermen who cut off shark fins and leave them for dead are CHINESE. Have some worldly awareness, and stop making Americans look bad, please.
@tim nelson: Wrong! Fishermen all over the world do this because of the high price they fetch in China. The fault lies not with any one country, but worldy greed.
See the awesome film Sharkwater.
http://www.sharkwater.com/
they should jail that idiot!
i really want to go see the fish market also… =D
Do people go to where you making a living to support your family and call you a monster?
Hey Don,
Around one million Americans visited Japan in 2004.
Stop to check your facts before you repeat stereotypes…though, to be honest, I had never heard that one before. Did you just make it up?
@Anonymous: "Do you own a TV? Buy Sony products, such as CDs or DVDs? Have a game system, such as a Wii or playstation? Then youre doing the equilivant of spending money in Japan, since profits from these items go directly to Japanese companies, if not the Japanese Economy itself." Don't think that I haven't thought of that. I have to buy some Japanese but I would never buy from these fishermen and I try to keep everything else to as minimum as possible.
As far as the US goes I agree we kill to many dolphins but we do purposely go after them. I also do what I can to get my representatives to change the regulations to stop this. I can do nothing about the brutal purposeful slaughter of dolphins in Japan except complain loudly. I hope that Japanese people will wake up to this some day and do something about this.
Licking a tuna is the funniest thing i've seen, have a sense of humor!
Skuba - thanks for the link, I will watch this film, it looks great
C'mmon guys, whats wrong with kissing a tuna, he'll prob get mouth warts, but the tuna will be fine!!! Plus he's cute….lucky tuna, lol!!!
only british tourists have the balls to do somthing as hilarious as that, and even if an american did it they would probably eat the tuna too, have some respect for the guy, the fisherman still sold his fish
Japan is always on the cuttin gedge with technology .. just put up some type of barrier and keep all the monkeys looking in and unable to "touch" anything. Pro-active vs Re-Active …c'mon ya'll … gotta be smarter than the "lickers" !!
@Shaydie:
Shark Fin is a Chinese thing, not Japanese.
@JeffMc:
BUT .. BUT .. It IS the Japanese who ARE the suppliers of this product too the Chinese. It is the Japanese fishing fleets that are executing this f*****g WASTEFUL atroscity. F****g shameful … i thought with Japan's cultural mindset of being so in sync with nature.. the way of bushido. That they might take more pride in the "way" they do things. Anyways .. have a great wknd!
Don't forget that the samurai were protecting themselves and their loved ones from their own countrymen… there have always been greedy and corrupt Japanese with less care for their high level "codes of honor". Much like many countries, this is sad but true.
I can see why these ignorant tourists might've thought it was funny to do that… maybe not even realizing the cost of the fish/work put into catching it/not to mention their germs all over it would be really offensive at the same time. I respect alot of aspects of the Japanese culture and don't think they should ALL be judged by one way of life ala the fisherman's lifestyle. Alot of the comments on this board attacking the British or the Americans or the Australians sound like the same kind of nonsense.
Some a-holes are chopping the fins off of sharks for profit and the Chinese are getting all the blame (like THEIR reputation couldn't get worse these days)… I highly recommend the lovely video of an elderly Chinese woman who saves homeless cows in Hong Kong and runs an animal sanctuary there in China. It is a nice contrast to all the negative stuff.
@t-bone: Bushido has always been a convenient fiction, similar to the European knight-errant. The idea of honor, chivalry, gimu, giri, etc. were ideals. …And like most ideals, they were rarely lived up to. Go read up on Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyesu (particularly the battle of Sekigahara in 1600) if you want a more detailed picture of how the concepts of honor and loyalty played out in the highest echelons of power in feudal Japan. (Hint: Tokugawa Ieyesu was implicated in the assassination of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who was nominally his liege, and he won the battle of Sekigahara because several daimyos and their armies defected to his side after being promised a better deal in the hew regime.)
You get right down to it, the issue is that Japan is a different culture; it doesn't share the same mores and norms as Australia, England or the US. Visitors to Japan (or to any country) should be mindful of changes in social customs and act accordingly. Being a right tumescent phallus when on holiday sodomizes it for everyone else.
To the people who don't sympathize with all those Japanese fisherman at Tsukiji: I lived in Tokyo for 3 years. While I was there, my Japanese friend (a sushi chef who buys fish every week at Tsukiji for his family-owned sushi restaurant) took me to Tsukiji one morning to see the auction. It was fascinating. However, the people who work in Tsukiji are not fisherman. Kind of like how the people who work at a paper manufacturing plant are not lumberjacks. People who work in Tsukiji buy the fish from fisherman and sell them at wholesale prices to restaurants. In fact, much of the fish sold in Tsukiji doesn't even come from the seas surrounding Japan or Japanese fisherman at all–quite a bit of it is actually imported from American fisherman, as well as from numerous other fishing enterprises around the world. So I think you are a bit confused when you say you don't care about what happens to the terrible "Japanese fisherman" who are working at Tsukiji. Like you, I too disagree with the practice of killing endangered species such as dolphins, whales and sharks (and pretty much any predator species, for that matter–it does too much damage to our fragile ecosystem). But not all Japanese people support it either, just like not all Americans support George Bush, carry firearms, wanted the war in Iraq, or any other number of stereotypical things that people around the world view all of us as doing/supporting. Maybe you should try getting to know some Japanese people to find out what they are really like before judging them so harshly. It also doesn't make sense to judge contemporary Japanese society on samurai and the Japanese feudal system. That's like saying that British Imperialism, American slavery, and the Trail of Tears are good representations of contemporary America. My experience was that the Japanese of today are a compassionate, respectful, peaceful people who admire and support America possibly more than any other nation in the world.
Wow 'American in Tokyo", the best post yet on this topic!
Oh I bet the mothers of those fish lickers are very proud of them!
What would've been funny? If the fish they tried to lick had been frozen and their tongues had gotten stuck to them like in 'A Chrsitmas Story'.
What a bunch of drunk idiots! They should offer a public apology to the Japanese fishermen.
DRUNKEN BLOODY BRITS WERE HAVING TOO MUCH FUN> WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY WERE ON>? REGARDLESS IT COULD HAVE BEEN ANYONE>?
@krissy: ha
I can understand the licking of the fish to be of concern, but aren't these fish on the floor where people's feet walk upon? The drunken men/boys should not have done this, but I find them taking the fork lift for a joy ride to be more of a concern.
It's interesting when the media grabs a topic and blows it out of proportion to get a rise out of everybody. They had to make sure they state which country they are from to cast shame and disgrace. Then, it turns into a mud slinging fest amongst the other countries?
It was a group of people acting like idiots like everyone has at sometime in their life. I'm sure somebody will proclaim their perfection in behavior due to their nationality, etc. Whatever. I don't know why this boy licked the fish, but is it really that big of a deal? Move on…it'll be ok. : )
@Shaydie: Kinda like how sharks rip the limbs off of humans and then let them sink to the bottom to die a lingering death.
It's a bloody world and we all take part in it. If you're going to accuse, consider first that your own country is most likely responsible for slaughter just as brutal.
It's no worse than American Farmers caging the animals until their dooms day. Did you even see how they treat the animals here in the US you idiot!! You need to get a perspective in all areas before you speak!
Stop making ASIAN people look bad! Killing fishes? Did whoever complain about the fish issues eat sushi or other fish or seafood product? Get over it! I agree that it is cruel to kill the fish like that but do not blame it on CHINESE or JAPANESE!
You're not good after all! Everyone did bad things! What about bullying people in less developed countries? Think you are good? Think again. What a hypocrite! And for that disgusting n nasty butthole who licked the fish, I wish you will go to seafood's hell and get rape by octopus. Hahaha. That nasty white trash must learn some manners. He must come from a rude and lowest class family background.
@t-bone: Shinto is the worship of nature kind of like shamanism. Bushido? People from London had something similar called Chivalry. Feudalism is long dead. We live in a Place of Capitalism and Laws that protect personal property and rights. I have lived abroad a bit, and I would have to say that the queens men (Brits, Auzzies, Canadians) have quite a snide distastefulness toward other cultures.
