Fox News 'Deeply Regrets' Being Called Out For Showing Ruslana Korshunova's Dead Body
Fair & Gruesome

While reporting on apartment-jumping Russian model Ruslana Korshunova, who reportedly committed suicide on Sunday after leaping to her death, Fox News broke what most media types would argue is an ethics commandment: Thou shalt not show the dead. This tenet falls somewhere next to "Thou shalt not show sex abuse victims," though clearly on the other side of "Thou shalt be OK if you show a dead Saddam Hussein hanging from the rafters." Now, following its various apologies to Obama's camp, FNC is apologizing for broadcasting Korshunova's corpse, lying partially covered by a sheet on the street.

Weekend programming exec producer David Clark said, "It was a producer error and we deeply regret it."

Indeed they regret it — especially the fallout part, where everyone with a blog has been calling for their head on a stick. And, perhaps, rightly so: One does not stamp "Exclusive" on the footage, and have Geraldo Rivera saying "These are the last images of her broken body being lifted off the Manhattan sidewalk, where shocked and sickened witnesses watched her smash onto the concrete," if it was simply a "mistake" — the shots were very obviously used for sensational affect, and the cable network was proud to be the only ones to have them. (TVNewser has the video.)

Of course, you have no problem with showing the picture either while blasting Fox. How very un-hypocritical of you!

The pic on here is not the one that caused such a fuss - Everyone was showing the corpse shrouded in a sheet or in a body bag; Fox News is the only one that showed the actual BODY - you could see her chest and her face with blood coming from the corner of her mouth.

You mean like when CNN (repeatedly) aired the VIDEO footage of snipers killing American soldiers?

I don't seem to recall any outrage then- but a model's suicide- look out!

Wow Pavel, that was really un-called for. Not all Americans are disgusting just as not all of any race or nationality is disgusting. I'm sorry that you have such a closed mind in this matter. We are grieved as much as anyone else that this young lady's life was ended in such a bad way. There is no call for you to go off on such a tangent when that is not at all what this thread was meant for. God bless you and your family.

Exploitative, sensational, and disgusting are basically the only words fit for describing Fox "News," with its pandering to the worst in all of us.

What makes this absolutely disgraceful is that they'll show the bloodied face of someone who most of us had never even heard of, but they won't show the coffins of dead soldiers coming back from Iraq (or, for that matter, investigate why the Pentagon wouldn't allow those pictures to be released in the first place) out of respect for soldiers' families. Yeah, they were certainly concerned with the privacy and dignity of this young woman and her family too. And you can say, "Oh, we're all equal, yadda yadda yadda, equal coverage to everyone who dies" or whatever, but that's just the point - Fox made a conscious decision to IGNORE men and women who died in uniform, just as they've made a conscious decision to exploit someone's personal tragedy. Repulsive, and it represents the absolute worst in all of us.
