Gay Marriage 'Not The Same Thing' As Interracial Marriage, Says Legitimized Bigot

It's hard watching Anderson Cooper anchor a segment about gay rights — particularly, gay marriage — when he can't even acknowledge where he stands on the issue. But that's why he invited Dan Savage onto the show to face off with Prop 8 supporter Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council. Let us know whose ears distract you from Perkins' nonsensical logic first.

Anderson never acknowledges where he stands on ANY issue that he addresses on the show, political, social or whatever. He tries to stay neutral at all times.

Man, they ALL have crazy ears. Sadly, I think Dan Savage's are the biggest, though.

If anybody has seen the movie "hot fuzz". Savage's reasoning reminds me of "the greater good" (warning, contains spoilers):

Straight people did not redefine marriage, as Savage claims. God defined marriage from the beginning. Period. End of story. Go Tony Perkins!

Men wrote the bible, not God. Men also wrote the US Constitution, but it appears that some are more willing to be literal about one man-made document than the one our country was founded upon. I'm pretty sure if Thomas Jefferson could see how the religious wingnuts have hijacked government he would be APPALLED!

You know Lynn…..Your god and your religion are not mine. Please stop stepping on my religious freedom would you? Incidentally, if god is an ineffable all knowing critter from space, I mean heaven, how is it that he defined anything? Does god speak English? The word Marriage is not Hebrew is it?

Come on.

marriage is steeped in religious history and i think it's a term that should never have been brought into the government realm. take the word marriage out of the equation, leave it to the churches to argue over if they believe in it so much. make civil unions the constitutional right for strait and gay people alike. if they also want to be "married" in a religious ceremony they can find a church to perform it.

I hare to break this to you, Tara, but marriage is historically a legal institution based on property. It wasn't until the Middle Ages that it became an inherently religious institution.
Marriage is an institution that crosses all religions and societies. Even in societies that have only recently had Abrahamic religious intervention have always have marriage.
Marriage is a covenant which helps societies to avoid dangerous taboos such as incest. Some of those societies have homosexuality and even homosexual marriage but once again, this is to maintain the covenants that rest of the society have to follow. In some societies, when two men marry, one man must take on the female role in the society. That man would then be treated like a woman.
In other societies, men and women are killed for being gay because in some way they seem to pose a threat to the integrity of the society. This is not to say that it does actually pose a threat to the integrity of the society but that it is perceived to be such.
Keep in mind, that both law and religion are societal constructs. They are dependent upon the social mores of the society.
But thank you very much, Tara for telling Lynn to keep her god out of my government. It's about time more people start speaking like that. I am also in agreement when it comes to: "Either give everyone the right to marry or give no one the right to marry." Since I would prefer no marriage and believe that that is never going to happen, I am going with giving everyone the right to be self imposed to a life of being stuck with the wrong person. As a matter of fact, let's legalize marriage for everyone and illegalize divorce. This way, people will think very hard about who they are marrying before they take the plunge into marital oblivion.

My God made government. Therefore, I cannot take My God out of my government. God made marriage (read the Scriptures, which are God-breathed, not man-breathed) and you will see clearly my point. If God made marriage, then how can I change His definition of marriage if everything God creates is already perfect?

Which biblical definition of marriage are we talking about? The one where a woman is forced to bear her husband's brother's child, should the husband die without an heir? The one where the woman is forced to marry the man who rapes her, after he pays her father a suitable fee? The one where Solomon had a gaspillion wives and concubines?

Furthermore, which traditional form of marriage are we talking about? The Roman one where men would divorce and remarry constantly in order to maintain political power? The berdache of some Native American tribes? The arranged marriages that have pervaded so many cultures throughout history? How about the incestuous marriages that have also been traditional throughout the history of royalty? Various form of raping and pillaging that led to a pseudo form of marriage not far from slavery?

Anderson if discussing gay marriage with Savage against That motherf*cking KKK-linked Tony Perkins, doesn't make you tell Perkins to STFU, and wink at Savage…you've become a damn Het-Bot.

btw when you say punch Perkins, I say rip out his throat…and I mean RIP OUT HIS THROAT with my bare hands.

Man,

Easy on the hate. I thought gay people were tolerant. I guess only if you agree with them. Stop the hate, please. Your requests for tolerance and acceptance are being drowned out by your screams of hatred and bigotry.

RE: Lynn

"everything God creates is already perfect"

If you truly believe that then why are you also trying to say that gay people deserve fewer rights?

God made gay people, by your argument gay people would be "perfect" just the way they are, therefore they should be treated the same…

Lynn, if your god made government, then presumably HE was the one to inspire the framers of the constitution to include the bit about separation of church and state.

Don't blame God for mankind's using its own ignorance, hate, and fear to justify bigotry. That is Man's work (and Satan's), not God's.

I pray for Him to enlighten your heart.

I believe that same-sex couples should retain civil rights and that they should be treated fairly and justly. However, I believe in the God-ordained definition of marriage and not in homosexuality (Gen. 2:18-25, Romans 1:27-32, 1 Corinthians 1:9, 1 Timothy 1:8-11).

and yes, God does love and accept everyone, but on His terms. When we become Christians, we have to compromise a part of ourselves (our sin, aka homosexuality).

Besides, God did not create people to have a tendency for the same sex; rather, sin entered the world through Adam and Eve, and homosexuality is a result of that sin.

Lynn, how sanctimonious people like you never cease to amaze. What's your answer to PF's erudite post? You are a little selective with Bible passages. LOL Since marrige is a promise to God, I assume you believe divorce should be illegal.
Go Perkins? Yeah, the guy with links to White Supremicists.
