Breaking: NBC Staff Slash: Tucker Carlson & Rita Cosby Axed
— Fri, Oct 20, 2006 —

What, you thought the fun was over? Nope! As part of "NBC 2.0" (read: staff slashing), we're hearing MSNBC talking head Tucker Carlson is out the door in what's perhaps one of the biggest, though least surprising, shifts by the network. Meanwhile, FTVLive is reporting that Rita Cosby, who's already taken a backseat role after being removed from her primetime talking head gig, will also be without a home. Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, we hear, will hang on to their seven-figure deals.

Update: While Eat The Press checks in with MSNBC chief Dan Abrams – who issues a requisite denial: "We have made no decisions about any possible programming changes" – we're also told that even Rita's production team isn't aware of the axing. Likely Abrams will want to deliver the news to Secaucus before the likes of us, huh?

Update 2: We're quite willing to let the other gossips do our legwork, as happens with scoop thief Radar pinging Tucker Carlson for comment. Says Tuck: "It's bullshit. It's total bullshit. I talked to Abrams last night. I've got another year on my contract. That's my comment: Bullshit." And while we're willing to believe Abrams and Tucker did have a chat last night regarding his tenure, and that Tucker throws around "bullshit" like George Allen does "macaca," our source at NBC (who's privy to chatter above MSNBC's decision makers) says otherwise: "Zucker can't stand him. He wants to see him go. [From what I understand] Zucker has been more than hinting to Abrams that Tucker and Rita need to go."

NOOO! Tucker and Willie Geist have been terrific friends to both Jossip and me personally. And besides that: with Tucker and Rita gone, I lose half the material for my column! I wish them all the best, regardless. :)

I can honestly say I am not surprised, especially about Rita. I have always found her to be so "unpolished" and "unprofessional." I started watching her when she was on CNN and couldn't stand her then (or was it Fox?). She has always reminded me of that certain type we all went to high school with, nervy, pushy always asking some dumb-ass question. Her voice was nerve wracking as well. I better quit - I didn't realize I was so bitter today!

I know Tucker is a Republican, or Libertarian as he likes to refer to himself, and I was all prepared to hate him but I love the show and found myself really liking him. I thought it was better in it's original version that it's current version but I would still be very sorry to see it gone. Now Rita? Good riddance if you ask me.

The sound of Rita Cosby's voice is such a distracting experience:

I always find myself not hearing *what* she's saying, and instead can't help but only hear a voice that sounds as if it's the result of some bizzare windpipe or asphyxiation incident, or a single horrific asthmatic episode that still hasn't ended.

Good riddance to Rita... How did she even get the job. Her voice has always annoyed our entire family; at dinner time, to say the least... Is she gone already??? Thx a million!!!

I know many people don't like Tucker but watch his show almost every day and it's probably my favorite political show.

Though the ratings for him have done consistently bad at least at the 6 PM timeslot (they should have some CNN-headline news type show at 4 then Tucker new at 6, considering it is a great time slot).

Rita should of gone a while ago IMO, I just hate her voice though I wonder who they will replace the two with, hope for no documentaries. (they are on enough)

LOL, HOW Tucker EVER got another gig was a surprise and seems he is at best "stressed" and trying desparately to be considered at least a seeming relevant loony..He p[rofessess Libertarien, definitely hates anything Dem/lib thou declares elsewise here and there but always slips back to his "conservativenessed" and "hypocritical" bs stances!!! He whines way too much, and puffs as thou HE has some credibility of some sort or other when a major NOT...but he is good for a disgusting laff as he parades his hypocrisy tither and yon and figure he'll show up over at Faux Fox sooner than later as he IS more their style !!!

I've just come accross all this and I cannot believe what I am reading... I LOVE Rita Cosby... The woman is a gutsy journalist, damn talented and real... Tucker has absolutely NO Talent and NO Ratings... He's NEVER / EVER had Ratings on that network.. and should've been AXED a long... long time ago.... If anyone at MSNBC knows anything at all... It should keep Rita Cosby and "CAN" Tucker faster than Texas 2-Step!

Could Ms. Cosby please consult an otolaryngologist or other medical specialist posthaste? Whatever is wrong with her sinuses, vocal chords, windpipe, it needs to be taken care of ASAP. In the meantime, she should not have a job in broadcasting. Rather listen to Fran Drescher deliver the news...if it must come to that!

I assume the indiviauals who degrade Rita Cosby because of her voice must have no flaws whatsoever, other than in their character. Do these people who stand in judgement of someone because of how they speak also condemn people because of the c0lor of their skin or their nationality? What narrow-minded bigotry. What ignorance and intolerance. If you don't like the way someone speaks, your remote has a button that switches channels. Of have any of you the wherwithall to have figured that out yet.

#2 LRM216 - You didnt realize you were bitter when you wrote your post? You probably do not realize your wife is banging the dominican paper boy either.

#3 'jon gomez' You insecure punk - 'lose some weight'? Try not to be so attached to your mother, and try for a woman in your life. You could not handle someone in Rita cosby's league. I do not recognize your name from the entertainment press, dating models or younger hotties. You loser, go drink and go for a drive. In the meantime, shut up.

#4 'Traci' - What are you waiting for, go swallow a reveolver. Ill purchase one for you if you need.

#7 'LDB' - Wow, your sophisticated innundo about 'an asphyxiation incident' - you must be a hit at somphmore parties. Consider trying one of your own 'incidents', use a good rope, or take a nap with your head inside a plastic bag and let mother nature handle the rest.

# 8 'I Agree' - I doubt it was her voice that truly annoyed your family at dinner. I would say it is more the shitty company and dysfunction of using a television as a conversational prop around the dinner table for your family. Don't blame Rita Cosby for your crap family atmosphere. But, if it helps you live in denial, go ahead and project the blame on your failings in that department.

#12 'J Tanner', you are a person of good judgement. While Rita does not have to anyones favorite, the perosnal attacks are not warranted. Me, personally, I have no opinion on her journalism skills, she is just 'gorgeous'..

#13 'Luisi' - Im impressed with your throwing around names of specialty doctors. You must have worked hard looking the information up just to sound intelligent. When do you finish high school - 2010?

#15 'Marilyn' sorry about the lack of equal opportunity in broadcasting. Life is not a meritocracy. Yes, it probably does not hurt that she is 'super Blonde' and just gorgeous.
I would watch a show just to enjoy the view.

#16 'Sharon' LOL, you are FUNN-NNY! Go stick your head back into the bag of glue you've been huffing on since your last trick. Jealousy is written all over you, you emaciated skank.
