Homosexual-Supportive Schools Unhealthy for Kids, Sez Michigan Affiliate

Today, as many of you know, marks the twelfth annual Day of Silence, which aims to combat homophobia in schools and commemorate those who have lost their lives to anti-gay violence.
A reported 6,500 schools are participating in this year’s festivities, which also honors slain 15-year Lawrence King, so you can be sure the event’s big news. And Michigan’s local CBS affiliate fumbled in their coverage, says gay activist Sean Kosofsky.

My school is participating in D.O.S. today. Almost the entire freshman body is remaining silent the rest of the school day. Even though soo many are participating, there’s the occasional jerks who yell rude things through the hall, like “Take that rainbow off! You’re not gay!” or the ones who make their own personal signs that say things like “I’ll talk all day, ’cause I’m not gay!”. But Day of Silence isn’t about being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. It’s about honoring and remembering the children and adults who’ve expirienced any hatred whatsoever or have been killed because of their choice of sexual orientation. I’m not gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, but my best friend happens to be bisexual. I support her decisions and choices dealing with her orientation and I love her all the same; she’s still a human being. The people in this world who can’t accept diversity are pathetic and afraid of change.
