It's Over; Now What About the Money?
The Cost of Love

Now that Madonna and Guy Ritchie's marriage has gone the way of their Swept Away remake, let's look into how much rapidly devaluing cash and assets are going to change hands, shall we?

In a refreshing turnaround of stereotypical gender roles, Guy Ritchie will almost certainly be exiting this union with far more money than he entered it with. To what extent? We can't be certain yet, but here's some helpful facts to guide our thinking:

• Of Madge and Guy's reported $525 million fortune, Ritchie is responsible for roughly $35 million.

• The couple did not have a pre-nup.

• No word yet on whether the divorce will be filed in New York or London. It matters. According to the Times of London, "a string of high profile have settlements won London the reputation of being the divorce capital of the world - for the poorer partner in a marriage."

• A large portion of Madonna's wealth was amassed before she and Ritchie were married eight years ago, a fact which should shape the court's monetary decision, if only slightly.

• The couple owns three homes throughout the world and a massive retreat in England.

• The couple have two children together. Madonna has one from a previous relationship.

• In a similar divorce this year, one in which Heather Mills split from the much richer Paul McCartney after a four-year marriage, Mills walked away with about $50 million.

• It's rumored that

Our (and our British friend's) best guess is this: Ritchie gets the home in London, $100 million (probably about £5 now) and joint custody of the kids, give or take a few mill. With all that, he then needs to really invest some time and energy into getting back to being a good filmmaker. The gravy train, as they say, is over.
