So, yesterday we told you how Katie Couric grilled John and Elizabeth Edwards, forcing them to explain the impetus behind their decision to have Edwards remain in the presidential race. All things considered, we found Couric “tough, but fair”, but not all of you agreed.
Some of you thought Katie was overly hard on the Edwardses, unfairly aggressive with her questions and not nearly sympathetic enough with regards to their predicament. Others felt Couric asked the questions on every American’s mind, bringing the pivotal issues to the forefront and giving the Edwardses a chance to confront their criticism head-on.
But what did the Edwardses think? Today, John Edwards shares his reactions.
During a roundtable today in San Francisco to discuss his plan to halt global warming, Senator Edwards was asked about the matter and said: “My reaction was that Katie Couric asked questions that the American people are asking themselves, and I think they were completely legitimate questions. And I think the American people deserve answers from me and from Elizabeth to those questions. I mean, I’m asking America to support me and vote for me as their next president, and I think part of the evaluation of a candidate for president is a personal evaluation of the character and integrity and honesty of a candidate. So, no, I thought the questions were fair. Tough. I thought they were tough, but they were fair.”
And while we’re not telling you what to think or feel, it’s certainly worth noting that the Edwardses were satisfied with the interview overall. Though, like Katie Couric, they’ll likely continue to take a beating from the press, at least for a little while. But who knows? Maybe, eventually, their critics will come around.

My condolences to the Edwards. No one wants a member of their family diagnosed with the big “C.” John should stay home, put on the apron, and take care of his wife.
My condolences to Mrs. Edwards…what a nightmare her life is.
A dead child, innoperable stage 4 cancer, the prospect of leaving two little ones motherless, and a self-centered piece of shit for a husband.
Maybe she contracted cancer from secondhand exposure to her husband’s Botox?
I know the family and KNOW that they are doing this for the RIGHT reasons for a BELIEF that they have in a service. It is just too bad that we are ALL not so selfless!! Right now she is “living with” Cancer NOT dying from it. If it was at THAT stage things would be different…SHE HAS NO SYMPTOMS!!!!
*Smith you are WRONG about the BOTOX…get your FACTS straight…he runs 5miles a DAY for the last 27 years and THAT is why he looks so great!
Admiration and applause for the courage and the commitment of Elizabeth and John Edwards. They combine the qualities of decency, political skills, and ambitious determination that are sometimes discovered among ordinary individuals in American life.
Can someone put a camera up Couric’s ass again?
I’m not a fan of Katy Couric, but I thought she did a good interview and tried to be polite as Edwards showed his monumental ego.
I was waiting for her to go across the table and grab him by the throat, to show her anger at what this uncaring fool is putting his wife through.
Everyone accusing Edwards of having such a large ego as to put his ambitions ahead of his wife, please at least acknowledge the fact, repeated by Elizabeth again and again, that she insisted that he continue in the race. If anyone has the “ego” here, it’s she. It would be very easy to accuse her of selfishness because she didn’t want to be blamed for derailing his campaign. But only a heartless shit would do that, right?
I could be wrong on this - but didn’t Katie continue working throughout her husband’s cancer and subsequent death?
it is so sad to know that the edwards are going through a “C” crisis and it is a critical time in both their lives, i can relate to their situation, i don’t see him as being any of those negative names that some people are labeling him as, i see a man who is staying strong and being an encouragement to his wife, if he gives up on his campaign , that will cause her to worry more and may even cause her to give up on her fight for life, i see him as saying ‘we are going to be a fighter in this race no matter what’ . staying strong in our weakess moment is what makes us more determined. katie may have been just a bit to tough but , she did her job.
My wife has stage 4 breast cancer metastasized to the liver so I can completely identify with what the Edwards are going through. The very worse thing they could do is drop everything and retreat in to a shell. If it is her goal as well as his that he run for president then they should go for it. They need to continue on with their lives. My wife, and I’m sure it is the same for Mrs. Edwards wants to continue to live, not get ready to die. To Mr. T and Smith, you are obviously very ignorant people.
