Last night we were heading to Queens. Usually, en route to that borough, we think about all the national cuisines we could eat and how weird everything is, but sometimes our thoughts turn to politics.
And we were thinking about John Kerry endorsing Barack Obama, and we were thinking it’s not so awesome.
First off, Kerry endorsing Obama is a big Fuck You to John Edwards, who you may remember ran with him in 2004. It’s also a big Fuck You to Hillary Clinton, whose husband, you know him, Bill, gave Kerry that great speech at the 2004 Democratic convention. Even though Kerry somewhat dubiously claims to have discovered Obama by having him make the keynote speech at the convention , Kerry shouldn't have said anything regarding 2008.
It’s also stupid. John Kerry was given a softball election in 2004. Swiftboat or not, Bush’s approval rating was nearly as low then as it is now, and he still managed to lose. After 2004, no one wants to hear from John Kerry. When there were rumors of him running for 2008, everyone was like, really? Because you cost us 2004, so maybe just sit this one out.
Anyway, the idea of Kerry endorsing Obama might seem great for his team. But in reality, it’s a bit reminiscent of Al Gore endorsing Howard Dean, and we all know how well that worked out. His endorsement is not the old guard sanctifying the new guard, it's a reminder of the Democrats fumbling against the Republican machine.
It’s quite a King Medias touch former democratic presidential candidates have, and they should stick to touching themselves.

I think Oprah - er- Obama can’t go the distance. For one thing, there’s the Kerry endorsement (who in their right mind would want Kerry’s endorsement?) And then there is the REAL Obama Girl!!!
