John McCain Enjoyed the Couric/Palin Hour So Much, He Scheduled His Own
He didn't say anything about suspending interviews

John McCain canceled his stint on David Letterman tonight so he could go save Wall Street, but still managed to show up down the street at CBS for governor Palin's interview with Katie Couric and say a couple words.

Couric is now the only anchor who managed to get an interview with McCain after the senator declared a suspension on his campaign for the sake of the economy; a total reasonable and normal thing to do and in not in any way related to the fact that the first debates are scheduled for this Friday.

N-E-way, David Letterman is understandably pissed, because McCain is all "no, no more interviews until this crisis is solved" and then goes down the block to the softball leagues to join Couric and Palin:

Said Letterman during the feed, "What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough? Suspend being president? We've got a guy like that now!" Haha, but also: scary. Letterman went on a whole tirade about McCain, but not before doing the obligatory three minutes of war hero ass-kissing to appease sponsors/networks/viewership/whomever.

As for McCain's interview, the senator's message was brief: "Now is not the time for statements. Now is the time to act."

That's fine and all, but suspending your run for presidency in order to fix the economy, or talk about fixing the economy, or in a desperate attempt to gain the offense when polls show you are flailing because people don't see you as the type of guy that can fix the economy, is in itself a really grandiose statement, no?

Man, dave letterman was right on. Such commons sense. He is right….if McCain has to do something, why can't the great Sarah step in and run the show. I think we all know the answer to that.

Watch the youtube video…it is great

Kudos to Letterman for choosing the absolute best "spit in your eye" replacement for the McCain segment, Keith Olbermann. WELL PLAYED, SIR!

Since when is David Letterman's show an important platform for politics? I personally admire McCain for this decision. I don't think the candidates should be appearing on comedy shows right now - I think they should be focusing on the issues. David Letterman needs to stop whining - Katie Couric was able to give him a more appropriate platform on which to speak.

Hey Abby: You were not really serious were you? This is a man who is running for the highest office in this country and he lies to a talk show host because he is afraid of what questions he might be asked. I bet you support his ultra ridiculous running mate who hasn't answered one question without lying since she was introduced. And I guess you probably don't believe that McCain didn't know that his close friend from Fanny Mae has been sending him campaign contributions every month up to last month. And the only problem with his bogus line about being needed back in Washington to help with this bailout crisis is that not one single person on that committee has heard from McCain. Several have been contacted by OBama, but not one has been contacted by McCain. And is you believe that everyone thinks this man is a wonderful war hero then I suggest you go to http://www.vietnamvetsagainstmccain.com. But that's right republicans only believe all the bad things said about democrats. And anything negative said about a republican is a lie, from some radical left winger. Get your head out of the sand sweetheart. Read John Dean's (one of your wonderful republicans) book entitle "Worse Than Watergate". Or read Bob Woodward's book "State of Denial". But then again that just might force all of your idiots who believe that George Bush has done a great job, to look at the situation honestly. The only nice thing I could possibly think of to say about George Bush is that Sarah Palin almost makes George Bush appear liberal. This is the scariest and most dangerous republican ticket in the history of this country.

I would like to see as a headline for every newspaper in the country: "John McCain Dodges Debate and Uses Economy as Excuse; Keeps Palin Hiden to Save Republican Party Embarassement"

Letterman's show is an important platform for politics ever since important politicians have chosen to appear on it. Surely that's not hard to understand, is it? Any show watched by that many people is an important platform for anyone!

Diane: Nice headline, but how about something simpler, like…

Hiden' from Biden!

Right on Abby! Quilter needs to get a life.

Letterman, Olbermann and Obama all had egg on their face the next morning.

Proves that some of our "smartest" Americans can be some of the dumbest.

I'm beginning to think that republicans live in a parallel universe.

How in the world did Letterman, Olberman and Obama have egg on their face? Uh, they didn't. McSame did. He's the one scurrying back to Mississippi with his tails between his legs.

Also, the "campaign suspension" was a lie. He's a liar. But you guys just keep sucking him off.

Proves the real "dumbest" Americans are the republicans.
