Jon Friedman gets too mainstream for Jossip

Jon FriedmanAs most of you know, we've been following Jon Friedman, Market Watch's #1 editor, since at least February 2005. Lately, however, we have noticed him popping up on the radar much more frequently.

His desperate plea to prove that he is oh so pop culture savvy by interviewing Kurt Anderson and licking Gawker's ass, at first, only made us want to cover him more.

Apparently, we were not alone. PR Week finds Jon-Jon "inspiring" "edgy" and "prominent," in their recent interview with the Media Web writer.

Jon has come so far. From his days of fearing bloggers to begging bloggers just to write to him (somehow, we don't think we were included in that request) Jon was always able to point out something relevant to current culture.

By always, we mean almost never, but that's why Jon-Jon was our fun little underground project for quite some time.

Yet, now it seems that, just like our beloved Jake Gyllenhaal, Jon-Jon is hitting the mainstream with full-force. How did he manage to convince all of these people that he is, "one of the most prominent media writers in the country?" Even more astounding is that he was able to convince himself of his importance:

I'll give people what they want, hopefully, which is a bit of an edge - either humorous, critical, or biting. And mostly I try to inspire people in the media beat. If they're being pompous or foolish, I criticize them. If they need encouragement, I try to give them a pat on the back.

Sadly, there was a time when we looked to Jon for encouragement — but we were left off of his 2005 awards. That really hurt.

So now, at the risk of sounding anything like Lloyd Grove kicking Brad Pitt out of his column, we are giving you all fair warning: expect much less Jon Friedman coverage in the near future. He's just getting too damn popular.

Plus, he called all of our celebrity loving readers stupid, and well, we just won't stand for that.

(*Note: This is no way indicates a planned reduction in Jossip's Jake Gyllenhaal coverage.)
