Though Jon Friedman's picks for "[X] of the Year" are regarded as even less significant than I Want Media's picks, it's always a fun stroll through the House of Mirrors to see what's tinkering in the Marketwatch media man's mind. After choosing Times columnist Nicholas Kristof as his Print Journalist of the Year, Jon-Jon now chooses Brian Williams as his Broadcaster of the Year.
Still, Brian Williams, the anchor of "NBC Nightly News" is my pick to be the Broadcast Journalist of the Year — on merit I appreciate Williams because he has shown that nice guys can finish first on TV. An individual doesn't have to yell to be heard. In his quiet, understated way, Williams stands at the top of his field.
Understated? Yes, that's exactly the feeling we got from the way NBC talks about him.
