Jon Friedman's Latest Kappora Has Us Kvetching
Who Gave This Shlemiel His Own Column, Anyway?

Earlier, we told you about Jon Friedman's latest column, which purports to list "The Biggest Media Stories in 2007."

At least, according to Jon Friedman.

But while the man clearly has no fear of the superlative, we were hardly expecting him to slaughter a "Coffee Talk" reference, plug his previous column and set out to personally discredit CNN in the span of a single article.

And yet, that's exactly what he's done here, as with this full-fledged assault on Larry king, which begins with the words "CNN: the most trusted name in fluff" and then, unfortunately, continues on from there.

Writes Friedman:

"Has anyone noticed that "the world's most trusted name in news" isn't exactly covering itself in glory these days? Don't forget Wolf Blitzer's meltdown during the Anna Nicole Smith saga," Friedman continues. "The news network's decision to replace morning anchor Soledad O'Brien with "Fox and Friends" fixture Kiran Chetry was questionable."

"Maybe," Friedman concludes (without addressing the incomplete thought in the previous sentence) "we all should accept that news and entertainment have become so intertwined that there's no distinguishing between them."

And while we're slightly tempted to respond in kind (i.e. something along the lines of, "If CNN is 'the most trusted name in fluff,'" then Jon Friedman is 'the most trusted name in awkward, derivative prose and annoying, self-aggrandizing edicts'") it occurs to us that Friedman actually said it best himself.

"Do those words make you feel, like Mike Myers' Coffee Talk Lady would say, allverklemptor what?" Friedman asks elsewhere in the column.

We wish, Jon.

Then again, if we really were "all verklempt," we'd hardly be able to mock your oblique, typo-laden opinion pieces, rife with sentence fragments, recycled content and forced pop culture references that don't quite pass muster.

And, yes, the very thought of that has us schvitzing.
