There we were at the gym yesterday afternoon, jogging along to whatever our iPod's shuffle function insisted we listen to, when we looked up at the wall of LCD flatscreens (thanks, Equinox!) and experienced our most recent pangs of journalust.
But this wasn't any journalust; it was a man crush. And we knew it was, because in this month's GQ, Adam Rappaport told us the symptoms a M.D. should look for in diagnosing: you get weak in the knees for a guy who's "strong, confidant, charismatic." So what if we're also wondering what lies below that anchor desk?
There he was, sitting next to fellow CNN anchor Veronica De La Cruz, and in between the closed captions in the lower third was his name: Rob Marciano.
Turns out, Rob's been with CNN since '03, arriving with tenures in Oregon and Louisiana playing weatherman. He even had a stint at our hometown NBC affiliate WVIT in Connecticut — though unlike the guy from CBS, Rob never came to our high school for a presentation.
He had a role in the cable network's Hurricane Katrina coverage and, since HK is also Anderson Cooper's pet topic, it's no surprise to learn Rob is a correspondent for AC360.
But given Rob's forte in the weather department, it came as a bit of a surprise – perhaps only because we don't watch much cable news on weekends – to see this specimen reading non-weather stories from the teleprompter. To be quite honest, even with the TV's sound muted, we don't have much use or attention span for those closed captions, so we'd be hard pressed to tell you what he was reporting on.
The healthy banter between Rob and Veronica, however, seemed ample testing ground to see if his chiseled jaw might find a more regular and prominent home on the network.
Meanwhile, word on the grapevine is that Rob is happily married and is said to enjoy "skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and playing golf." And don't even get us started on his fan club.

Your grapevine is wrong as usual. Rob is divorced and dating Veronica. At least CNN lets him date unlike some of the other journalists.

I've even served him a few times back in college when I was waiting tables. Super nice guy.

yeah I work at CNN and see him almost everyday. If you can believe it, he's hotter in person…I've even seen him workout at the gym where I go. He does circuit work and lifts 45 pounds weights in each arm. HAHA. I swear I do not stalk this man…just have chance encounters =) and FYI he lives with Veronica in midtown.

I live in Midtown and know Rob. He and Veronica live together. I see them out at this place called Halo every now and then. Rob is good friends with some people I know. They seem like a cool couple.
