JuicyCampus Didn't Go Offline – It Took Over the Internet
The CW's show isn't the only gossip that's back

When litigation magnet JuicyCampus.com launched at the beginning of the year, no sex life of a member of a college student body was safe. And thanks to defamation laws that hold web publishers free from responsibility for the comments posted by other people, it flourished. Sure, Google got scared people would think it was profiting, or helping founder Matt Ivester profit, from scandalous tales and ended up pulling it advertising relationship with the site. But that doesn't mean JuicyCampus has disappeared. In fact, it's expanding.

A revamped version of the site boasts sections for 185+ new campuses, with some 500 expceted by month's end. And it's likely to parents — who hear about it when the local news gets Ivester's fear-inducing press release — all riled up about the possibility that their daughter's innocent freshman year snogging is going to wind up being broadcast to the world.

Not that Ivester wants users to feel like that's what the site is for. Except, uh, it is. Says the release:

With topics like “Cheaters”, “Biggest cokehead”, “In The Closet”, and “Best Lay” there was some question as to whether the site would be coming back at all. Indeed, some predicted that “the spectacular nature of it will be its own downfall”. The Founder and CEO of JuicyCampus, Matt Ivester, however, expressed tremendous optimism and a very different point of view.

“There is a huge demand for a site where students can discuss the topics that interest them most, in the manner they deem most appropriate” said Ivester. “Despite all of the controversy, we’ve decided to keep JuicyCampus true to its roots, anonymous and uncensored. We’re very excited to be expanding to all of these new campuses.”

Yeah, whatever.

To Ivester's defense, what he's engaged is the same activity any social network allows for. (Ever had someone post a note to your Facebook wall that was intended for your inbox? Or had a frenemy spam your friends and wall with nasty messages? There is no such thing as privacy online.)

He's just providing a new medium for it. And, like the trashy tabloids you support each week, your visiting and posting to the site helps support the cause.

At the very least, the site hasn't forced anyone to kill herself … yet.
