A magazine's contributors page is little more than an excuse for writers to test out book jacket photos and for editors at competing magazines to figure out who to poach. Which is exactly why we read it more often than any other FOB piece.
So we were browsing the December Holiday 2007 issues of Details, the Jonathan Rhys Myers one, and found cover story scribe Karl Taro Greenfeld's contributors page entry. Emphasis ours.
"He seems like a very earnest fellow. One who wants to be liked and will work very hard to make you like him," writer Karl Taro Greenfeld says of cover celebrity Jonathan Rhys Myers (page 116). But on interview day, Greenfeld's mind wasn't on his subject. "The night before, I went to a casino in Dublin and bet a great deal of money on poker," he says. "I had mistakenly thought it was Texas Hold 'Em, but it was really Omaha. I actually had terrible hand and lost. Greenfeld's book China Syndrome (Harper Collins) is out in paperback.
Sadly, there's no mention of said poker game in Greenfeld's final draft, which would've helpfully distracted from the lede: "'Pussy,' Jonathan Rhys Meyers bellows. 'I want pussy!'" Yeah.
