Katie Couric Writes A Love Letter To Axed Exec Producer Rome Hartman On Her Blog, Which Almost (But Not Quite!) Makes Up For His Untimely 'Departure'

Katie Couric pays tribute to ousted CBS Evening News exec producer Rome Hartman by blogging about how wonderful he's been to work with and glossing over the fact that she may have had a hand in getting him fired.

As she writes:

It's been such a privilege to have [Rome] by my side these last six months. He's been a wonderful partner as I've embarked on this new chapter in my life. I'm so grateful for his indefatigability and perseverance. And it's not surprising to me that he has handled his departure with typical grace, classiness and humor.

Other people who seem to be handling Hartman's "departure" well: Katie Couric, CBS News President Sean McManus, and Hartman's replacement, Rick Kaplan.

If only the suits at CBS asked me my opinion before they paid Couric millions of dollars to be their frontline news gal. I would have told them that I would NEVER ACCEPT getting my national and international news FROM A CELEBRITY. Want a woman? Should have hired Judy Woodruff. Now THERE"S a female newscaster.

CBS should create a reality news show… that would be novel idea for nightly news.
