While we much enjoyed Kurt Eichenwald multi-thousand word NYT pieces on then-child Internet porn star Justin Berry, it must be said: the fall out is even more riveting. Eichenwald's $2,000 payment to Berry – which, by this point, you already know he requested to be returned – has caused the current Portfolio byline to reappear in the headlines, with all sorts of ethics cliches attached.
But he didn't do anything wrong, Kurt continues to claim.
Eichenwald says that the thought of telling his editors that he had made a $2,000 payment to a source "slipped my mind in the flood" of events.
"Paying for news is the quick, simple line that people are using," Eichenwald said. "But it's not what happened."

Well, Eichenwald's denial looks pretty funny in light of this chart that was published at http://www.mediawiredaily.com/ this morning.
On or around that check into came into play, Justin Berry had been bragging to others about having a book and movie deal. When he receives and deposits the check, Justin starts making all sorts of moves including reactivating justinsfriends.com, contacing his former business associates and seeking help from others for help in redesigning his website, and shooting a same sex video featuring himself and a teen who was 14 at the time.
And no sooner that the website is back up and running, Justin has an argument with his partners, and quits, runs into the arms of his new sugar daddy Kurt Eichenwald, and all of sudden, days later, there are allegations of child porn and sexual abuse, all by a kid who was already out of the business until Eichenwald came along to drop some money on his lap.
What's unfortunate about all this is that 3/4 of everyone out there right now don't know or don't care about the truth; All they want is for the voices in the head - the ones put there by guys like Eichenwald and others of his ilk - to stop screaming.
So Eichenwald can bleat, bloviate, hurl ad hominems, threaten, intimidate all he wants but it won't change the fact that his money was used to help a teen fund a teen porn website.
