Letterman Continues to Milk McCain Cash Cow
Getting canceled on was the best thing to happen to Dave

Jossip Point-Counterpoint: Drew says David Letterman's McCain rants are a good thing for the comedian. David says there are more risks than rewards.

Either David Letterman was still so upset that John McCain canceled his appearance on The Late Show Wednesday, or the talk show host realized that his anti-McCain rant got more play than anything the gap-toothed Letterman's done in years.

Well, either way, David set his sights once again on John McCain last night, calling out the senator for "suspending" his campaign due to the crisis at Wall Street, but then continuing to make public appearances and stay in NY, instead of going back to DC to meet with lawmakers like he promised:

Sure, it was hypocritical and Letterman has every right to be miffed, but this seems like a pretty political way of taking out a personal slight. Letterman knew that America would be watching last night to see whether or not he'd go after McCain again, and he did not fail to deliver. He knew he was in the public spotlight for his statements and, like the class bully in 6th grade, he kept it up because he needed the attention.

At least in Letterman's mind, there is something to be gained by taking a hard stance against McCain's hypocrisy — whether that's a younger generation of viewers/bloggers tuning in to catch future tirades, or just the street cred that comes from going all political-Oprah on everyone's ass, it's hard to imagine Letterman's continuing on-air ire if say, Shia Leboeuf canceled at the last minute.

True enough, but Letterman's anger is justified. McCain lied to him, and by extension, to the viewers, the American people. If Shia Leboeuf lies, it's bad, but it's not like the actor is trying to become leader of the free world. McCain's lies, like Bush's, put the nation at risk.

That said, I agree it's time for Dave to get over it and move on. Chances are, though, that he'll milk it for a while. Then again, if it draws people away from th execrable Jay Leno for a spell, that's a result with which I can live.

Maybe Dave is getting mileage out of it. But it was gift-wrapped and delivered to him by McCain who lied to him. It seems that McCain & Palin has a lot to cover up. It is a state that they created to themselves unfortunately.

I read an article where they wondered how Lettermans feud with McCin would end. I think the best way it could end is if some Chapman style guy emptied a gun in Lettermans fuck'n head.
