Magazine Love
one editor's search for love via men's magazines
rachel_bilson_gq_preview_small.jpgGQ has often been described as a gay men's magazine, but after reading Details, GQ is actually just metro. At first, I was confused about why a men's magazine would put a woman on the cover. My roommate's answer: "GQ is for men's men, and men's men like puss-say." Hard to argue with that, but ultimately well-groomed men's men don't interest me. Misogyny and manscaping aren't for me.
gq-daily-show1.jpgWhat struck me about this feature is the emphasis on how "cool" Daily Show correspondents are. GQ in general positions itself as a style maker, but it's lowest common dominator style. If a man needs help figuring out that the Daily Show is funny, he'll probably need more guidance than I'll want to give him.
gq-president-women-1.jpgThis month's GQ has a four page spread on hot potential First Ladies. Yes, I don't want to talk about the crisis in the Middle East in the front of the book or on the first date, but my interest in politics goes beyond this.
