It's not hard to make John McCain look silly in photographs, what with his perma-scowl and crazy comb-over, so one wonders why celebrity photographer Jill Greenberg, a loyal Democrat, put so much effort into sabotaging a recent shoot with the Arizona senator.
Not only did Greenberg use a strobe light to "[turn] the septuagenarian's face into a horror show of shadows," according to the New York Post, she also didn't use Photoshop to touch up the images the shoot yielded. To industry publication Photo District News, Greenberg admitted, "I left his eyes red and his skin looking bad." Funny.
Not laughing is The Atlantic. The magazine most likely to be found on Ivy Leaguers' toilets bought one of Greenberg's biased photos for use on their current cover, not knowing that it was product of such an "unprofessional" shoot. "We feel totally blind-sided," said editor James Bennet, covering his ass.
Greenberg's having her cake and eating it, too. Besides landing on the cover of The Atlantic, her tainted images have been a great source of amusement for the photographer, who has on her Web site posted an updated set in which she's added a monkey pooping on McCain's head to one and a mouth of razor-sharp, bloody teeth to another, complete with a text bubble reading, "I am a bloodthirsty warmonger."

Hell, he looks evil when he's smiling. She didn't even need to do any special work to make him look bad.
Just another case of McCain's camp not doing the least little bit of research. If they'd looked into Jill a bit more they would have known about the type of work she'd done previously featuring George Bush and might have been a little bit more attentive about what lighting she was using and how the shots came out.
All in all it's humorous but not really scandalous, who's swayed by the actual liver spotted skin of a presidential candidate harshly lit from below and not touched up in photoshop anyway?

As for the exact location of Jill Greenberg's head, since the Atlantic isn't going to pay her, may sue her, and every other professional magazine will think twice before hiring her, I leave that to people with insight as to how the world works.

Anyway…the picture the Atlantic chose is actually kind of good. At least they took that folm noir shadow thing out of the background. As for Jill? The only thing she's guilty of is prideful stupidity, by going public with her mean spirited behaviour. Do the job your paid to do, or don't do it at all. Save the voting for the voters.

While I applaud the ATLANTIC apologizing for Jill Greenberg's gross, disgusting and disrespectful photos of a respected war hero, senator and our next President - why didn't ATLANTIC offer editorial control over the shots - they generally have "people" there guiding along the shots.
I will say, I will never read ATLANTIC magazine, nor look at another photo by this disgusting photographer - I hope someone sues her! She's a pig! I hope someone utilizes their photoshop skills to pass along her photo w "blood on her lips" - blood on her lips won't disguise her EVIL soul!

This is unprofessional and embarrassing for any progressive, which I am. She was hired to do a portrait of McCain, which she should have declined. All she is showing is how she abused his trust with their one-on-one professional relationship.
