Memo To The Copy Department At The New York Times: MTV Is No Longer A Synonym For Cool

While NBC has made more forays into controlling their shows online, ABC is the network that's actually creating online content. It is the only major broadcast network with its own news Webcast. As the Times reports:

The 15-minute Webcast often features Mr. Gibson in the anchor chair, but the similarities end there: the segments can run long, and they purposely look raw and personal, as if they were made for MTV rather than ABC.

Except these days, a comparison to MTV isn’t exactly a compliment. If these segments were actually made for the "music" station, they would feature 19 year-old frat guys screaming, “Next!” when a fat girl walks out of a bus.
