More Cougar Sightings In New York
Older woman dating younger men on reality television: progressive or pathetic?

Guess cougars are the new hot thing. Before you could just call them "real housewives" or "Demi Moore," but now everyone is hurrying to cash in on the crazy older women preying on dating younger guys fad. For the money, Kristin Schaal on the Daily Show had the best take on the ridiculousness of this phenomena, but the exposure just seems to have spurred television producers on a race to see who can snare the sexiest grandmas the fastest.

Yesterday it was news of Camp Cougar on VH1; today it's a casting call for MTV's Cougars: NYC.

To be sure, Cougars: NYC is less a reality competition than Camp Cougar and more in the style of Real Housewives, with cameras following around the 40-year old ladies as they stalk the town. So far, only three of the women have been cast, which is why they have to do things like hold open casting calls. To the photo reel!

A cougar can be queen for a day, provided she signs an contract agreeing to be on the reunion show when she turns back into a pumpkin after the Botox wears off.
The casting director was not aware Ellen Birkin would be auditioning for a role. She did not get it.
The lady on the left did not mean to try out for Cougar: NYC; she was supposed be on Dateline's "To Catch a Predator."
All joking aside, there is a sort of post-feminist cool factor at play here, under the assumption that the young teen demographic that VH1 and MTV cater to would be interested in seeing a show where women in their mother's circles hook up with boys in their own circle. If nothing else, Cougar: NYC is no worse than Viacom's other Emmy-deserving programming, like I Love Money, Rock of Love, Flavor of Love, and I Love New York.
