MSNBC Axes Live & Direct, Lets Rita Cosby Live on For Now

Rita Cosby

Well, she isn't completely done at MSNBC, but after "a grueling nine-hour meeting" with Rita Cosby and the execs at NBC (of course her agent was there, too) the network announced that her weeknight show, Rita Cosby: Live & Direct, will be pulled in early July.

But just so you and Intern Wendy don't break down into hysterics over the loss of the consistently hoarse voiced newscaster just yet, MSNBC is assigning her to the primary anchor slot at their new news drama MSNBC Investigates, where she'll be able to live out her dream of catching predators, grilling convicts, and continuing to spill wonderfully hilarious quotes for our Cable Quotables.

She spills her joy over this new gig to Lloyd Grove while toasting to her boyfriend at his surprise birthday party.

"I'm thrilled … This is an exciting opportunity, and now you're going to see even more of me at 10 and 11, on MSNBC and also on NBC."

Well, we're not (and you) may be less thrilled when Lloyd Grove crushes her high hopes with one of his "I hears." This time he hears that tapes Cosby's new show have already been canned and that the anchor has only two weeks left on-air when Live & Direct ends.

Well, that's what you get for thinking it would be a good idea to have Lloyd Grove over for cake and champagne.

'Cosby: Live' soon dead at MSNBC [Lloyd Grove, Lowdown]

I hate to admit this, but Rita should have stayed at Fox. Her jump to MSNBC was a precarious move, namely because MSNBC is precarious AND because, given her freedoms, her show did not show off her assets, but rather her liabilities. Gossipy, silly, exploitative, etc…

Rita did a great show. Sometimes the networks just don't appreciate what they have. She was great on Fox, also.
    Wish her all the best!

she doesn't need a surgery…………… what she needs is a PhD and a Master's degree from the U of Illinois

Individuals with degrees/PhD's usually don't convey that fact on a mundane message board. I presume being a troll is a full time job for you. *s*

I really looked forward to Rita's show. She was a favorite on Fox and I swiched over to msnbc to watch her and I found Don Abrams who I loved and Tucker and Scaroborough. I will miss her.

I enjoy the material covered on MSNBC, but I can't STAND her annoying voice. Kay was right on with her description of Rita's voice. If she's covering a story, it ruins it for me. Its like she has to open her mouth up as wide as it will go just to speak.

    Find another job!

Personally, I think she's a racist crack whore and a no-tallent ass clown. Can't wait for her to get her next gig on CNBC's "Last Chance Late Night" Lineup…

I thought Fran Drescher's voice was annoying - but this gal's takes the cake. How could someone with a horridly irritating voice like that get a job in broadcasting? I caught her on TV last night and had to change the channel because I found myself wishing I could listen to someone's fingernails scraping down a blackboard instead.

Rita Cosby is simply unwatchable. Her voice, for starters, is incredibly distracting… and, it seems to continue to deteriorate over time. Live and direct? I don't think so. I never understood the move…
