If you're wearing a microphone, don't say anything you don't want the world to hear! MSNBC's Chuck Todd, political consultant Mike Murphy and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan all put their foots in their mouths today when, after thinking they had gone to commercial, the trio ripped on McCain's "cynical" Sarah Palin veep pick.
The conversation gets really good when Todd wonders, "Do you think the Palin pick is insulting to Democrats? Is the really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?"

Nevertheless, I think what you're seeing in Tony's post is the same deep sadness and revulsion we all experienced watching Palin speak last night. Simply put, she's a country hick who has no business on the National stage. Her selection was entirely political and not motivated by anything other than a sneaky attempt by McCain to galvanize the Republican base. This is not politics at its best. It's a popularity contest, pure and simple.
Their candid remarks are quite similar with what I'm hearing from DEMS, some GOPers and Independents. They see Palin's selection as cynical and desperate - not as a reasoned attempt to pick the best person for this country's second-in-command.
