"My Husband's Been Kidnapped" Stunt Is Merely a Disgusting Court TV Marketing Ploy
No need to think there's a wife who really lost her husband or anything

savemyhusband.jpg

Visitors logging on to SaveMyHusband.com would be hard pressed to miss the "Court TV, Seriously Entertaining" bulletin board item on the homepage. Even still, we've heard from some TV insiders (at competing networks, of course) that the site – which features video pleas from a one "Christina Goodis" whose scientist husband "Andrew" has been kidnapped, and she needs your help – hasn't done enough to separate fact from fiction.

Sure, there are also links such as "How To Play" and "Official Rules" (and fine print like "All character names, company names, and pharmaceutical names are fictional. Any evidence to the contrary is completely inadvertent.") but even we'll admit: We were a little fooled on first visit as to whether this was a rictus-inducing marketing ploy or an authentic call for help from a woman who's loved one had been taken from her. We've seen websites of both sorts over the years. Though none of those offered $25,000 to help "find" the missing loved one. (That there are ads for the site on the Court TV channel helps dispel any notion that this is anything but a stunt; those ads alone cost more than the reward.)

And then there are the sponsorship logos. Applebee's and Suzuki are helping to pay for this emotional trickery all for the sake of collecting your email address. And just in time, too: A Mighty Heart, about kidnapped and murdered journalist Daniel Pearl, is right around the corner.

Oh lonelygirl15, do you see what you've done?

I watch Court TV daily. I am appauled that a channel that reports true but tragic real stories would consider a kidnapping 'game'. How inappropriate! I am not sure how my family will handle watching Court TV. We will stop eating at Applebees. Please pass this information on. Remember there is a real four year old girl missing–spend time finding her. This is also the anniversary of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. I am so disappointed in you-Court TV. What are some of your future contests…'Who put the newborn baby in the service station toilet?'…..'How many skyscrapers can the terrorists topple?'. I am so disgusted that I may end our family's viewing of Court TV. I may put a block on the channel. You do such supperb work—-What were you thinking? Please send a copy of this message to your management. Some other people with my views may not waste the time to send their views. They can just stop watching and avoid Applebees and Suzuki.

I e-mailed this on their site as a technology message. It probably won't be seen by anyone of any importance. I have decided to eliminate Court TV from the menu at our home. I watch it after work each night, record interesting trials and watch them at night or on weekends, and we usually keep the TV's in several rooms on Court TV so that we can walk room to room while doing chores/etc. and keep up. No more. I guess we will have lots of free time. I won't know how this thing ends unless I read about it or see it in another place other than Court TV. We will not be eating at Applebees. I don't have a use for Sazuki. Viewers need to make a point about the lack of judgement of this 'game'.

It would be only fair and just for the advertising and marketing team to re-think things. I would love to see a campaign to encourage Court TV to spend dollars on real situations. They can take their $25,000 and add some more and tackle crime—-that is what they report about. How about providing animal rescue dogs to look for lost children? Post pictures of lost children several times during each show… They could bring awareness about child molesters that have disappeared from their registered addresses—put their faces on the screen.

I do have to say that in the amount of time it took you to write out how DISGUSTED you were by something a TV CHANNEL is doing, you could've found about 4 missing children!! Also, have you actually watched any kind of tv lately?? I can guarantee you that you will see things MUCH more DISGUSTING and APPAULING than this…paris hilton has her own show for goodness sakes!!!! um…dog the bounty hunter, the reality show to compete for a kidney, SHALL I GO ON????!!!! How about you start spending a little more time with your family AWAY from the television for a start and you may get the use of your brain back!!

You have got to be kidding me.. pandp you need something to do with your time other than worry about what a tv station is doing to improve their ratings. Life is way too short to get all upset over this…relax. Just for that I'm gonna go out and buy a susuki product and eat at applebees as much as my wallet will let me and court tv even if I'm not home will stay on!

Pandp……just a thought,,,,,,,have you ever played the board game CLUE ???? Its a game about MURDER….Games like this have been around for ages. I agree theres alot of hanious craimes being committed in the world today, but to blame a game for the worlds terrorists and child molestors ? Im glad theres a distraction to all of the evil in the world. Its not centered on anything more than finding a scientist…BIG DEAL……Perhaps it would be good for you to not watch T.V. for a while….Get you back into the REAL WORLD :)

Ok. First things first. For those of you that saw the advertisements on Court TV for the 8 Day Mystery thought it was real for even one second, need a reality check. You need to stop taking everything so seriously. Just because a channel deals mostly with serious, real-life crimes does not mean that they are not entitled to take a time out and do something that is fun. I took the time to play this game and I had a great time. I am one that enjoys life and enjoys taking time out of the ugly norm to just sit back and relax. Brain teasers are the best way to do this. So much bad crap has been going on and it's nice to play a game every once in a while. On none of the advertisements did it actually say that it was real. You were told it was a contest. I caught the advertisment, the first time, right in the middle and as soon as she stated that she was willing to offer "up to" $25,000 then I new it was a game. Clue was one of my favorite games as a child. Benjamins Momma and cyn_love are definite members of the real world and know exactly what's going on. As stated above, I played the game and whether or not I actually one any of that money doesn't matter to me. I had fun and it was nice being able to play an interactive game of sorts like that. I honestly hope that there is a part two since Andrew's assistant is now missing. I will be first in line to play that game as well. I think I will take my Suzuki out for a drive and stop off at AppleBee's for some food. Take it home and enjoy watching Court TV for updates on more interactive games and some real stories as well.

Pandp you so need to chill out and relax. Sounds like you need a vacation if you are getting that hyped up over a GAME. It's just a game and a way for the channel to promote its self. They are entitled to promote their channel to get more people to watch any way they choose. I honestly feel that having a contest to try and find a person, who isn't really missing, is a great way to do this. I look forward to more games like this.

For those of you who take life way too seriously, here is your reality check…….Take a deep breath. Count to 10 and relax. Life is way too short to be so serious all the time. Court TV has just proven that by taking this time out to play a little game.
