NBC News Young Person Expert Luke Russert Brings Exactly Zero New Points to the Table
Stop talking

Youth vote correspondent and nepotism beneficiary Luke Russert began his DNC reports yesterday with a Chris Matthews sit down. There, he noted the high temperatures in Denver, repeated something Chuck Todd had to explain to him (that Obama needs to win the 18-34 vote by 20 points to beat McCain), reminded viewers young people are lazy shits who need to be reminded via text message about Election Day, and schooled Chris Matthews on Facebook. CHRIS MATTHEWS DOESN'T KNOW WHAT FACEBOOK IS. Jesus. This is Barack "Web 2.0" Obama's biggest cheerleader?

The only redeeming quality of young Russert's contribution so far? That he wouldn't let Matthews interrupt him. Video down here:

Is Luke Russert an experienced, trained journalist? If he is, then he's got rookie stuff to deal with, and he's just inexperienced in television, and he's just finding his way. But if he is not an experienced, trained journalist, then his new work is just another dumb, stupid, lame exercise in television (and print, at times) just lamely, dumbly putting a celebrity on the air or in print as a reporter–when the person has absolutely zero knowledge of or experience in journalism. This is just celebrity worship and cult of personality at its worst–no offense, none, to Luke Russert. But it's pretty simple: If you are not a trained journalist, then don't pretend to be a trained journalist. There are literally dozens of far more experienced journalist working away every day at NBC who could be put in a better position to comment and analyze and report on the DNC convention, as well as other matters. Perhaps there's a place for Luke Russert, but if he is not an experienced journalist, then maybe the place for him right now is as an apprentice, and as someone in a learning position and not someone with significant time on the air. To be a good journalist, you need experience in the field as a working, shoe-leather journalist. It's not Luke Russert's fault–it's NBC's fault. Stop putting non-journalists in journalism roles.

What the fuck? How long is the national nightmare going to last with this fucking kid??? Jesus Christ - talk about NBC/MSNBC milking the Russert tit for all it's worth.

And sweet Jesus, this kid is so hard to watch - I mean really - what kind of "insight" does he have? How to make the best out of having two famous parents? Fuck him - he sucks!

Congratulations Luke, job well done! It's nice to see such a fine young man follow in his father's footsteps and make his family proud.
It is not the same without Tim Russert covering the convention and election stories, however I'm sure he is smiling that great smile from above. What is really nice is to see how Tim's friends and colleagues have rallied around Luke, this is not favoritism, it is kindness, support and most of all RESPECT for thier late friend and well respected colleague, Tim Russert. Luke is still a young man and his dad was a huge part of his daily life. Come on, they have watched this young man grow up and they are just doing the right thing, stepping in to mentor Luke just as Tim had done with many others during his time on earth.
I say, more power to you Luke, you worked hard to get a degre, and yes, you have had some privledges, but what is wrong with that? No one has handed this young man the Meet the Press seat yet, he's just starting out and finding his way. He is a class act and has made his family proud. I for one was so very impressed at his strength and poise during the memorial & services for his father, he displayed maturity, dignity and honor, all in the wake of losing his best friend, his dad. There should be more young people like this. There should be more adults like this also, stepping in to mentor and care for young people. I look forward to watching his career and future develop and wish him the best!
