NBC's $3.5 Billion Tarot Card Purchase
Teaming with the Blackstone Group and Bain Capital, NBC Universal will buy The Weather Channel from Landmark Communications for an estimated $3.5 billion. That dollar amount is down from original estimates of a $5 billion asking price, though it's still $3.5 billion more than any of us pay to find out whether we're going to need to carry an umbrella. This headline is terrible! The science of predicting the weather should never be associated with the dubious practice of tarot card reading. Tarot card reading is not only scientifically invalid, it is also culturally inauthentic. Tarot cards were not even intended originally to be used for prediction. When Tarot cards first appeared they were meant to be used only for card games. The media should stop glorifying the practice of psychics and tarot divination.
