NBC's Dateline Has Suddenly Forgot All About That Would-Be Child Predator Who Killed Himself

chrishansen.jpg

Yesterday word came that NBC had settled a civil lawsuit brought by the sister of Dallas prosecutor Louis William Conradt Jr., who killed himself when police and Dateline's Chris Hansen, along with a camera crew, showed up at his home when he failed to show up for his fake date with a little boy in November 2006. But don't go poking around Dateline's website to brush up on the incident — NBC has all but scrubbed it clean of that entire Perverted Justice investigation.

The website does provide transcripts and videos from the 11 other “Predator” investigations that “Dateline” did around the country, beginning in 2004. The list of stings on the site includes a brief reference to the one in Murphy, noting that 25 men were snared there by “Dateline’s” hidden cameras. But no other information is provided.

A blog posting about Conradt’s suicide written by correspondent Chris Hansen is no longer available. Neither is a statement from NBC News called “Setting the Record Straight,” in which the news division rebutted a September investigation by ABC’s “20/20” into the controversial events.

Footage from the "Predator" sting in Murphy, which aired on "Dateline" in February 2007, still can be easily found online, however –- on YouTube.

Two likely scenarios: 1) The settlement agreement with Conradt's sister included a clause that required NBC to pull all references of him (and, likely, never air his segment), but since the terms are confidential, it's likely we'll never know; or 2) NBC is doing everything in its power to avoid any further damage done from a program that was heralded ratings king and quickly became a public relations nightmare.

Gone from the NBC website but no forgotten. I'm glad that sites like youtube and jossip keep this story alive. Maybe NBC will stop trying to play moral policeman games for ratings. An entrapped man took his own life out of desperation. Whatever they paid out to his sister won't be enough to bring him back nor is it going to buy back the respect of its viewers who don't get off on that sort of programming.

He is innocent until proven guilty. EdED and Yahoo sound just a bit presumptive of his guilt.

The perverts can once again go after poor innocent kids. I think every one of the sicko's BUSTED should kill themselves! The loser did the world a favor by topping himself and now he made his greedy sister rich. Nice touch! She can remember the complete pervert her brother was each time she spends a dollar. SHAME ON HER.

I think that program was very wrong to start out with, they named the people that were arrested in the program. But failed to arrest the parants of the minors who allowed access to the adult sites, they forget children today learn to use the internet from schools and they can figure out how to change the parental control blocks today.
The kids also sign into MySpace.com with false pictures and claim to be at legal age and they are not 18 yrs of age, I think parants also should be arrested for allowing their children to be on websites of adult content and should state their real age with their photos and have a real photo not a picture of an adult and claim they are 18 or 98 yrs ols and get adults to talk to them. Parants should also be charged for allowing their children online and not doing their home work for school. the kids hurry up and signout of adult websites when mom and dad pull in the driveway or walk in the door and claim to be doing their home work and they weren't, and yet mom and dad beleive their children, We as parants should not buy the kids computers and or lap tops unless they are controled by the school or only accessible while parants are home with the child to watch the websites where the kids go and keep the computed locked down until parants are home watching their children

There is nothing wrong with that program yes they gave out names on the tv show but the local paper would have given them out anyway…and another thing parents do watch their children and yes there are some parents who don't which they should have some consequences but there are alot that do but u cannot monitor your child 24/7 the schools are not monitoring kids as much as you would like to think they are…you do not have to be 18 to be on myspace and if you know someone who is on there that is doing that report them and myspace will remove their profile…the point here is this man knowing right from wrong still contacted this supposed little boy and no matter what that was wrong he made very graphic conversations with the boy and when he didn't show up they still had enough evidence that the police decided there was more than enough evidence to arrest him and to me and i am sure many others with the fact that he was the DA he would have known that they had no case but him taking his life showed many people just how guilty he truely was and i am sorry for the sisters loss but do not think she deserved that kind of money
