Did John Mayer hook up with Ricki Lake at the Sunshine and Sachs holiday party? Probably not! But that's what Page Six insinuates in today's bizarre/gossipy item entitled "RICKI, DON'T LOSE THAT NUMBER.' Writes Richard Johnson (and, to a lesser degree, Paula Froelich) and co:
John Mayer…made a beeline for Ricki Lake at the Sunshine Sachs p.r. company’s Christmas party. The two talked about Lake’s new documentary, “The Business of Being Born,” before Mayer confessed, “I’ve had a crush on you for two years.” Helpful publicists then herded the two to a back table, where they exchanged numbers. Lake soon left and went to the Rose Bar, where Mayer texted her throughout the night.
A few minor points to consider.
• First, it was a non-denominational holiday party, not a Christmas party, as evidenced by the fact that it was thrown a full three weeks before Christmas. And on the first night of Hanukkah.
• Also? The media/publicisty crowd was (not surprisingly!) predominantly comprised of Chosen People.
• Meanwhile, two people sitting in close proximity and possibly exchanging business cards does not = canoodling. Not even maybe when they're both represented by the same publicist.
• Fact: According to a knowledgeable gossip columnist we spoke to on Tuesday, John Mayer is still dating (read: sleeping with) Friday Night Lights hottie Minka Kelly and "making out with a different girl at GoldBar, like, every single week."
• None of whom, it seems, bear even a slight resemblance to Ricki Lake.
• How do we really know that John/Ricki were texting all night? Was Page Six's spy actually close enough to read the text-messages directly off the screen of Ricki Lake's Blackberry Wireless Handheld?
• If so, how strange/not subtle of him/her! And if not? Well, we all know how easily those can be manufactured.

Since that gossip columnist is probably wrong about these two texting that night because as you said, how would they know unless they were standing close enough to read the messages, then how do we know John is making out with a girl every week at Goldbar? I mean, seriously where do these gossip columnists get their info?

Ricki Lake was on Howard Stern yesterday and confirmed they were texting a lot. Howard even convinced her to text John Mayer during the show.
Just because he is seen with multiple women doesn't necessarily mean he is sleeping with them.
I saw John Mayer with Minka this Monday afternoon at a cafe in the West Village, looking very datey and cosy.
