Newer, 'Cuter' Camel No. 9 Cigs Appeal To The Sex And The City Generation Of Smokers

Camel%20cigs%20for%20women.jpg

No matter that Stuart Elliot's column is weeks old to the table, but today the New York Times' columnist showcases Camel cigarette's new female-friendly marketing ploy, designed to target a wider, curvier range of emphysema sufferers:

Wall Street analysts praise the introduction of Camel No. 9, in regular and menthol flavors, as a further step by the R. J. Reynolds, a unit of Reynolds American, toward a new marketing strategy.

But critics decry the new Camel as yet another effort to single out women for smoking pitches, a tactic they trace back to the 1920s when American Tobacco urged, “Reach for a Lucky instead of a sweet” to promote Lucky Strike cigarettes.

Silly tobacco companies. There's no need to resort to these brazen marketing tactics. Ultimately, female smokers are basically looking for the same things as their male counterparts, namely, a cigarette that will enable them to inhale as much tar, nicotine and lung cancer as humanly possible—in every single, intoxicating puff.

Well, yes, we do read Stuart's columns. Each and everyone. It'd be malpractice for a media gossip blog not to. That said, you definitely did beat his story by weeks. Kudos to you, Mark :)

i tried them and i am a male. It's a cool looking pack design and they taste alright. But as asmoker myslef, i feel that it is time to appeal to a larger group of smoker'sand come out with a brand similar to the no. 9's only flavor them. Don't spend all the money on the tins that flavored cig's already come in but instead make them the same price. Either way they are decent smokes and its a pretty shade of pink. No i'm not gay either.

I have mixed feelings about this thread, so I am going to give a mixed rating. The story was decent, so I give it a FIVE. However, some of the commenters in this thread are less than desirable, such as David, Debbie, and copyranter. However, that cool guy Longaway is in here too. I give Longaway a TEN, the rest of you get a ZERO.

These smokes leave everything to be desired.
they smell and slightly taste like candy, however
the smoke smells more like perfume.

Shame on Camel for misleading me into wasting $3.10
on a pack of useless smokes.
    I love the design,
I am going to put my wides in there.

Camel 9's a so close to perfect that I'm sticking with them until they make them perfect. As for the smokes themselves, they burn too fast. The taste and smell are nice….very nice. Just not strong enough. Kinda makes me wonder if there's a taste in there or is that taste from what I just drank? I think it's in the smoke. It's a nice taste & smell whatever it is. Crank it up a notch! I've also had comments from folks who don't smoke. They prefer for me to smoke the 9s around them because they put out less smoke for them to second-hand but when it does make it to them, they don't mind so much because there's not as much of that smoke and it smells nicer.

Then hubby lights up a regular Camel filter and ya hear a group of people go, AWWWWW MAN! Has to be the 9's.

For packaging….change the accent color from pink to gold then on the menthols from green to silver or something. The bright pink and green colors against the black …well…someone's going to get crap for smoking these cigarettes unless they manage to stole them away in a cigarette case before they are found out.

Sorry for typos….haven't slept in a loooooong time.

I got a pack of these the other day. They're a bit more pricy, but i thought they were rather pleasant… not too heavy.

Seems to me regardless of the smell, taste or package design. Smoking is dumb, it actually causes death. So regardless of how pretty the package who cares it makes you stink, takes your excess income and sucks the life out of you.
