What was Mark Salter, the pack-a-day speechwriter for John McCain, busying himself over the weekend? It wasn't coming up with trendy new slogans perfect for bumper stickers, or finding a way to get Jeremiah Wright's name in the press again. Instead, he was writing a three-page letter to Jon Meacham, the editor of Newsweek, "slamming the newsmagazine for what he said was a 'biased' cover story on Sen. Obama that 'framed this race exactly as Sen. Obama wants it to be framed.'" Not content with just having his rant heard, Salter went one step further: He threatened to throw Newsweek's reporters off McCain's campaign bus and airplane.
