Not Asking Anne Hathaway About Her Scandal-Plagued Ex-Boyfriend Was GMA's Giveaway
That it's playing softball with celebs

Is Good Morning America going easy on its celebrity guests? The morning shows have always been the place for creampuff interviews where talent can plug their latest TV and film projects while their publicists stand by ready to pull rank if an anchor so much dares as violate their "Do Not Ask About X" agreement. But perhaps ABC's morning show is all too eager to please A-list (and below) stars.

TV insiders have noticed a pattern of softball questioning in the interviews at "Good Morning America." Among celebrity guests who recently enjoyed kid-glove treatment: Jennifer Lopez, who wasn't asked about her pregnancy even though she was showing; Dennis Quaid, who wasn't asked about the accidental overdosing of his twin babies, though it had made huge headlines; Katie Holmes, who wasn't asked about a Scientology exposé out that week speculating her daughter might have been conceived with L. Ron Hubbard's frozen sperm; and Anne Hathaway, who was on Thursday to hawk "Get Smart" but wasn't asked about a report that she had split with boyfriend Raffaello Follieri. "It looks like they are making deals," said a source. "To land celebrity interviews, they are promising to ignore anything embarrassing or controversial." "GMA" had no comment.
